I am moving in to my new house next month and looking to fit some ceiling speakers downstairs, probably two in the living room, one in the dining room and one in the kitchen.

To be honest I dont really have a clue about things like this but from what I can see the below looks like a good bet;
http://www.buycleverstuff.co.uk/kb-sound-select-bt... (2 pairs of MasterZone speakers)

Plus points seem to be being able to control it from my Ipad or Iphone and the fact it also has a radio feature built in which most dont.

Has anyone on here got them or similar fitted?
5" speakers should be enough and the above kit seems quite easy to fit + neat/tidy once fitted.

Any recommendations welcome.

I have that radio in my bathroom connected to a Q Acoustics QI65C-ST 6.5" stereo ceiling speaker. It sounds really good and it's easy to use. The best bit is the FM Radio though as I tend to listen to radio a lot, most other bluetooth speakers don't have a built in radio, although it is just as easy to stream from TuneIN Radio.

I'm also slightly biased as I'm one of the main sellers of them in the UK. http://kitchenbathroomradio.co.uk/kitchen-ceiling-...

For two rooms, you could buy one master and two pairs of speakers... this will play music in both areas at the same time. If you want the ability to turn one of the areas off then I would use an in wall speaker switch. The slave zones don't work as you'd imagine on the Select radios, you can have a sub zone but you need to use different speakers and they look different to the passive speakers which might be a problem if you they are close together. Better off using separate modules for the separate rooms, and if you have a larger kitchen/diner then use a master with two pairs of speakers.

In terms of installation its simply power to the module, connect the speakers to the module and connect the aerial to the module (Included, or connect to roof aerial).

Another one worth looking at is the Systemline E50 http://kitchenbathroomradio.co.uk/kitchen-ceiling-...

If you want to ask anything or want to see pics/videos of my bathroom one just let me know and I'll see what I can do!

Thanks a lot for the info on them.

What I was planning doing was just buying the set as it is, so basically the KB sound select and two sets of their speakers. reason being I would prefer them all to match each other.

Once all wired together is it not possible to turn off just one individual room? So for example we have guests we can have it on in the living room and turn the kitchen/diner off or do they need to be wired up individually for that? I was under the impression this could all be controlled from the app?

Let me know your thoughts on the above.. Once nailed down I will purchase via your website smile

If you just buy two pairs of speakers with the Select BT then you won't be able to turn the second zone on/off.

You need to buy the second zone package which we've just updated on our site.

This consists of a 6" powered ceiling speaker and a 6" passive ceiling speaker.

You would install the Select BT master module in the kitchen with the included 5" speakers.

Then in the dining room you'd install the 6" set of speakers (you would need a local power supply to the active speaker) and then link these speakers to the master Select BT module. The speakers are different to the 5" but it shouldn't be too noticeable in open plan rooms, and won't be a problem in separate rooms.

Now you'll have music in both areas from the app, and you can turn the second zone (dining room) on or off from the app.

The sub zone pack is now added here: http://kitchenbathroomradio.co.uk/kitchen-ceiling-...

Alternatively you could buy the Select BT with two pairs of 5" speakers and use an in wall speaker selector switch to turn the areas on/off.

Speaker switch = http://kitchenbathroomradio.co.uk/multi-room-audio...

Thanks again for the info. I have a quick scenario to run by you.. I think (in my head) it may work but could you confirm before I order.

The other half has now said she wants them in the following rooms;

2 x Dining room
1 x Kitchen (separate but next to dining room)
1 x On the landing above the kitchen for when she is getting ready etc!.

Anyway, wiring and positioning is no problem for the above. What I am thinking of doing is;

Zone 1 - Dining room
Zone 2 - Kitchen and Landing

I am basing the above on the standard BT Select speakers (two pairs). If I fit a speaker switch can I then have both zones on but switch the landing one off?
So if we have people round we can have the dining and kitchen on consecutively and just use the switch to 'over ride' the landing one to turn it off?

Alternatively if the above worked would that mean I could have zone 2 on but use the switch to have just the landing one on when needs be instead of both?

Hope that makes sense with you?

Thanks again

This has landed quite nicely for me too.

I'm about to get my kitchen and dining room knocked through and thought about something like this. So this bit of kit http://www.buycleverstuff.co.uk/kb-sound-select-bt... do i just put the speakers in the ceiling, run the cable and power to them but where does the "master" sit? Is it built into one of the speakers because i've got a pantry at the minute that's getting blocked up and a small hatch being put in to get access.

As the OP said for now if we just want this in the kitchen diner but could want it in the bathroom when we get that done next year too so how would we put it in there? Could it also do it whereby i'm cooking tea in the kitchen with my guns and roses or whatever on and the mrs is in the bath or shower listening to Kings of leon??

That'll work if you have 1 pair of speakers in dining room, 1 pair of speakers in kitchen and 1 pair/stereo speaker on landing.

The master module would do the kitchen + landing via a three way switch and the slave will do the dining room. You could have kitchen on, landing off, kitchen off, landing on, both on.

You'd need:

1 x master module with two pairs speakers
1 x 6" slave zone
1 x three way switch

If you want two pairs of speakers in the dining then it would involve buying 2 sets of slave speakers and to have the master module doing the Kitchen + Landing via a three way switch, then you'd need 2 x 6" slave speaker sets for the dining room. this way you can have the dining room on or off via the app.. then the kitchen/landing you could turn on/off from the app and then select between the rooms via the in wall switch.. kitchen on, landing on, both on....

You'd need:

1 x Master Module inc. 5" speakers + extra speakers
2 x 6" slave zone speakers
1 x three way switch

Hope that makes sense, it gets a bit more complicated past two pairs of speakers! Feel free to call me or reply if you want to clarify anything.

Yeah they are easy to install. You could place the module in the pantry connected to 230v power. Then install the speaker cables out to each 5" ceiling speaker. Or you could place the module behind one of the speakers so it's accessible via the hole.

If you want to listen to different music in different rooms then you would need two systems. It's a single source multiple room system. True multi room multi source systems step up in cost quite considerably.

Assuming you're happy with same source in both rooms then I would advise you to pre-wire the bathroom at initial install stage, then all you need to do is add the switch and second set of speakers when the bathroom is ready to be done.

Let me know if you wanted to go for it, I'll tell you how to pre-wire it for both scenarios and sort you out with some extra speaker cable to do the pre-wire with ready for the future bathroom speakers.

Thanks yet again for the help.

Sorry, I dont think I made my self clear on the previous post. There will be two pairs of speakers (4 in total)
2 speakers in the dining toom
1 in the kitchen
1 on the landing

For the above can I just order the standard set with four speakers or so I need to upgrade speaker number 3 & 4 (Kitchen and landing)?

I want to be able to play the three down stairs consecutively but have the landing off and vice versa. All controllable via the app if possible but not 100% essential.

If you let me know what I will need for the above I will get it ordered this week smile

Cheers

No probs, happy to help.

It will physically work the way you're explaining it, but you'll be splitting a stereo pair of speakers between two rooms. So the kitchen will have the left audio channel and the landing will have the right audio channel... if the speakers aren't in an open plan area then it might affect the sound quality. Most songs do play fairly equally out of left/right channels now but not always, think along the lines of Queens Bohemian Rhapsody how they use the left/right channels, now if you were listening to that in the kitchen you'd miss some of it.

However it will work, and you might be happy with it. I'd say at least wire the extra speaker cables to the speaker positions as the correct way to do it is with single stereo ceiling speakers or pairs.

To do it with stereo speakers throughout you'd need:

1 x Select BT module
2 x 6.5" Stereo Ceiling Speakers
1 x 6" Powered Slave Zone
1 x Three Way Switch

You would use the master module connected to the three way switch. Three way switch connected to kitchen stereo and three way switch connected to landing stereo speaker. Then the amplified slave zone will do the dining room.

I'll PM you some prices as we don't have that combination listed.
