Following on from this:-

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I have been looking for a suitable replacement. I went to the local curry's/pcworld super center and have had a ganders at whats available.

From what i read 4k and HDR is a must,

Id like a minimum of 50"

Min of 3x HDMI

Not to bothered about brand but a decent warranty is ideal. Have noted Richer sounds and John Lewis all do 5 years /6 years as standard.

Not to long ago purchased a nice LG 40" 4k tv with smart remote for our static caravan and was impressed. Would purchase another LG set just larger but alas choice is vast and I'm no expert when it comes to finding a good buy or whether last months model ( haha ) that's now been discontinued is worth the discount of £100 ( i'm sure you know what i mean ).

For reference seen this curved tv and appears nice in the flesh but alas there all showing the 4k demo that doesnt give a true account at what normal or hd viewing will look like.

or this which might be the earlier model, no idea what difference in specs are.

Many thanks for any help or advice offered.

My mum recently bought that curved Samsung having previously said this big telly screens were crass and ugly. If they've won my mum over then they are doing something right.

For me, the curved thing is dumb. If you're sat square on it's barely noticeable. If you're sat to the side your viewing angle is at best compromised.

The smart features are flaky as fk - almost none of the on demand apps work at all (many simply aren't there at all) and the ones that are there are very unreliable.

HD content and SD content looks good though through Freeview/HD, if you stand in the right position.

The stand is enormous and sticks out past all the edges of her TV unit. She's ignoring this as it would require her to replace all her expensive living room furniture hehe

Can't comment on other TVs of this nature though, although my gut says I'd go for a Panasonic and a flat one at that.

I collect a 43" curved Samsung TV later on today, I've no idea if it's any good has 4K/HDR and 3 HDMI, looks to be the smaller version of the 55" you linked to.

I'm concerned now though that the curved screen won't suit the lay out of the room and that we sit too far away from it to be of any use.

If you might want a Sonos Soundbar in the future, make sure that whatever TV you buy passes through 5:1 from external sources via HDMI

That's what she said!

Just set it up, it's very good, thankfully but 49" would have been better but I had a budget.

Just an update peeps. Bought the Samsung from Richer sounds at £899 , they did manually discount down to £879 and offered the standard 6 year warranty which was well worth it.

As per usual excellent service and had stock.

Initial impressions are its massive compared to the bulky Sony that got fried. Connected to my new Xbox s and picture is fantastic .

So far , well happy .
