Moving house shortly and the new place has 2 living rooms, one of which will be a more formal living room, and the other a laidback TV/home cinema/playroom. It’s about 5x3m in dimension, will have carpet and comfy L shape etc. There are no kids yet, but they are on the horizon. With this in mind, I need to make sure this is child friendly, safe for them and also safe for my equipment.

I’m sure I am not the first to face this dilemma so seek the wisdom of others who have been down this path. The TV will go on the wall at a height that is just above toddler finger prints, so not too high to be uncomfortable viewing . I’ll have a closing and locking TV stand below for equipment as needed. My current 5.0 set up is a real mixed bag, some nice KEF bookshelf speakers at the front on stands, a Q700O centre, and 2 Q 2020i bookshelfs for the rears on stands, driven by a 6 year old Denon AVR amp. It’s ok setup and adequate for my needs but has never blown me away, maybe that was the lack of a sub?. The speakers have already been abused by my 2 year old niece when we have looked after her, and therefore the plan is to distribute the KEF and 2020i’s out to other parts of the house for hifi only and out of reach.

The 2 options I am considering at the moment are as follows:-

1. Getting a full q7000i speaker system with sub, and using existing amp. I like these small speakers as they have a tough grill on them and very low key. I can position the fronts on the wall next to TV and the rears high enough on wall to be out of reach. I would want to have a good listen but the reviews seem very positive. This would require quite a bit of work to get all the wiring hidden away into wall etc.
2. Drop the amp, and buy something like a Yamaha YSP2500 sound bar/sub combo. From the good reviews I have read, this should produce a pretty decent sound in a rectangular room. It would be half the price of the option above and should be relatively child friendly and very straightforward to install, but won’t create a true surround sound.

I’m don’t want to spend much on this and not after the ultimate in home cinema sound, just something that creates a good sound for TV/Netflix/PS4. Any advice welcome.
