Hi All,

Recently did a few upgrades on the cinema (started with just the TV and then seemed to snowball).

Anyway the sub is not switching off/to standby when the amp switches off (it used to switch off automatically after a couple of minutes with the previous amp).

The new amp is an Onkyo 656 (old one was an Onkyo 626). The only real difference I have in settings is that I have the AMP set to ARC to allow TV apps to pass through sound to the amp.

Would this stop the sub going into standby? Or do I need to try a new sub cable?

Many thanks,
Phill

If the sub is not using a 12v trigger, then you can expect this.

The sub will turn on when it senses a signal. This could even be some sort of interference.

Mine randomly turns on and off, generally I just leave it.

You could try turning the gain up a little to see if it helps.

If the new amp supports HDMI passthrough (still passes the signal even when it's off) this may mean the sub never switches off.

Interesting!

We seem to be getting a lot of 'hum' from it which I suspect is interference.

HDMI pass through is switched on (oh well i'll just make sure I remember to switch it off after a film from now on

Thanks both

HDMI passthrough should have no affect on this.

I have it switched on, yet my sub will turn off.

The hum is caused by interference which could be causing it to stay on.

Could be a simple fix.

Google 'Ground loop interference'

Common problem.
