Watched this the other night. Looks great, not as good as some of the 4k/DV content I have seen but very worthwhile.

As for film scans, 35mm film is more than capable of delivering 4k resolution if they find a good print to work from ( not 3rd+ gen). a 35mm film frame is easily capable of 8mp resolution.
My comment was aimed more at being able to see the film grain than out and out resolution.

As we all know, resolution isn't the only factor when it comes to overall image quality.

Can't vouch for 4k, but Life of Pi has always been a good HD demo.

This is quite a visual and auditory feast even on a 6.1 dvd based system. I can't imagine how good it would sound on an Atmos system with the extra height information. 'House of Flying Daggers'.

Good to see another fan of my fav French Director. Have you seen his earlier films (Subway, Nikita and The Big Blue) ? All with Jean Reno in different states of tune...

Quite surprising how many titles I have. I didn't realise different countries get different quality discs.

Have I seen?

Let's put it this way, our eldest daughter is named after Mathilda in Leon and I have the French version of The Big Blue!!!

I liked Lucy and yes the new one looks stunning!

One of my clients know LB & Eric Serra and has filmed JR in a popular French film.

Keep trying to tap him up for a intro!

Hehe.

Got an urge to watch Big Blue on my new set up now.

Good man. Subway remains my favourite though but a lot of the humour and social interactions didn't translate well...

"The film was photographed over 14 months by director Ron Fricke, who invented a time-lapse camera system to use for it. In 1992, it was the first film since 1970 to be photographed in Todd-AO, a 65mm system, and in 2008, it seems to have been the last. The restored 2008 Blu-ray is the finest video disc I have ever viewed or ever imagined. It was made from the Todd-AO print, which was digitally restored to a perfection arguably superior to the original film. It is the first 8K resolution video ever made of a 65mm film, on the world's only scanner capable of it. It is comparable to what is perceptible to the human eye, the restorers say. "Baraka" by itself is sufficient reason to acquire a Blu-ray player."

So is it better to look for Imax/70mm based films? Do they do the Hobbit Blu-ray with the higher frame rate like the cinema version?

That's been a thing since the Laserdisc days, when I had to import NTSC Deluxe multi-disc boxsets from the US, rather than the bare-bones single disc affairs we got over here in PAL land.

The Fall has stunning visuals. I must get around to watching Subway again, not seen it since its original VHS release.

I don't have a blu ray player, everything is either on my nas, netflix or amazon, but for showing off 4k the astra uhd demo channel on freesat has some really good content on it. Only downside is now i want to go to tomorrowland.

Take a look at Samsara - a follow-up to Baraka but more recent. Stunning picture quality. I put it on when my TV was installed and the installer was so impressed he said he would have to get a copy for the shop! Sadly not available on 4K yet, just BluRay.

The blu-ray is better though. Simply jaw-dropping shots of our planet.

I have this, as well as Baraka and Samsara. All on BR.
I think that the latter two just shade Home in the quality dept. Plus, Home is full of doom-mongering, which grates after a while.

Pixels is a good demo (Film is a bit stooped but fun). Great Picture, bass down to 4hz and Auro Encoding (If you have support for this in your setup).

Well Deadpool was brilliant last night.

Daughters out.
Curry Consumed
Volume up
4K on
Atmos Activated.

The cinematography (one for the spelling police) was perfect for the technology.

Just a shame it is not an easy one to show as a demo to clients! Lol

Awesome though.
