Hi All,

We got a bit carried away on Saturday in Currys, and seem to have walked away with a 65" Sony XD93 which is due to be delivered on Thursday, and now the OH has asked me to start looking at TV Stands. We are in rented accomodation so wall mounting isn;t really an option sadly - we currently have a black toughened glass stand (not sure of manufacturer sadly) that was rated to 42" screens and above - it's working fine with our current 50" on there but I suspect the 65 will probably be pushing it.

OH is after a wider one this time - potentially up to 1.5m - 2m wide. We have seen a few but I am concerned that they won' t have room for our Yamaha amp in there.

We say the below in the Swedish Meatball place, which looked along the right lines, it's over 300 quid with delivery however. It has enough room for all the kit we have underneath the telly however.

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/storage-furnitu...

Under the telly will be going:
Yamaha AV Amp
Blueray Player
PlayStation 4
Sky HD
Possible Playstation 3

Any have any ideas or good places to look?

This place has a good choice however as you are not local it would have to be done online.

Your biggest challenge will be the Yamaha amp and its depth.

I went with a pair of Ikea Besta units and didnt fit the back panel to the lower one, then the amp can stick out the back.

I also bought a thrid cheap Besta which I plan to not build and use them and backing panels and in-fills to hide some of the cables.

Really should photograph it for you all shouldnt I.

Is this too "black"? It'll have more than enough space for all your stuff. In fact I'm after a new cabinet and this is literally the only one I've found that suits my requirements without costing £1000+, but I've decided that it'll look a bit drab in our lounge.

If you can wait a few weeks I'll have my current one for sale http://www.alphasondesigns.com/wooden-glass-tv-sta...

Thanks for the suggestions folks, I've run through a few of them with SWMBO, and apart from opening up a whole new debate (do we want classic look or more modern?), the top suggestions so far seem to be:

I'm probably leaning towards the MDA Designs one, as it is usefully cheaper and has plenty of space for everything we need, however I am a big fan of the MMT one posted too.

What about your dialogue speaker if you have one?

I'm in a similar position, so looking at Cantilever designs like this one, which has space under the TV for the center speaker and a shelf (only just) big enough for the Yamaha amp. Most AV stands appear to have no thought about the center speaker at all!

Or something like this, but is a fair stack of cash for something to plonk the TV onto!

Didn't manage to get a centre speaker past the boss, was hard enough to persuade her we needed my old Mission 733i's hooked up the the AV amp smile

Just to throw a spanner into the works, Currys have royally fked up the delivery (managed to put it in the system with no date), and it's touch and go if they can still get stock (it's the 65 inch Sony XD93, which I'm told is no longer available), so we're going back to the store tonight to see if they can throw in a stand for the inconvenience.

I have a liking for "off the wall's" products. They no longer make the unit we have, but in short we have TV, Sky+HD unit, WiFi router, DVD-BR player, and file server all on top or inside, all hard wired, the wiring hidden in their cable handling system and just a mains cable, sky cables and phone line poking out the back. It's a corner unit so all that is hidden anyway. At one point also had a games console in there too, though the cabling got a bit mental then. Oh forgot, also got cabling to 2+1 sound speakers. Mind you you have to really think the wiring through and be a neat worker to fit it all in. hehe

Nice!

There's no way one of their racks could 'hide' my 9 way trailing socket though smile

Just to add a bit of closure to this, whilst looking at stands SWMBO decided that we need some new furniture in the living room - new sofa, sideboard etc, so we just got a temporary stand from Amazon to tide us over until we do that - which I suspect is her revenge for me suggesting we buy a new TV smile

Anyway we went for https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00B78A4NM/ref... and it seems much as you would expect - quick to build, basic cable management, but holds the TV until we can get something proper. All installed it looks like

Won't be on Grand Designs any time soon but does the job for 50 notes. Cheers for the suggestions everyone, will definitely be revisited after many weekends looking at sofas....

Ikea does cheap spiral wrap. Great for tidying up the wrestling octopuses behind any stereo/tv etc.

I use stick-on white conduit on the skirting board, which B&Q sell.

I haven't seen a pair of those Mission speakers since 1996 ish!

Sadly Currys didn't get round to delivering the TV until about 6:30pm on a Sunday (only 4 days late), so by that point, my will to tidy the cables up had completely vanished, and wanted to play with the new TV smile

I'll pick up some of the Cable Management stuff next time I'm in Ikea.

They are still great speakers as well smile Sadly I don't think mine are too much longer for this world, the driver units have started to perish (the plastic is cracking) - still sound good, but looking a bit tatty now. Still I think 20 years constant use out of a £180 pair of speakers isn't too bad.

They are indeed! I remember them well because I had a hard time choosing between those (well, the Mission 734 with it's extra bass driver) and the TDL RTL 3s. The TDLs just clinched it, mainly for the crazy bass they pumped out!

Mission appear to be trading still, so maybe they can hook you up with some new drivers? Would be a shame to bin them if you like them so much!
