I need to update my current speakers as the wife says they are ugly and don't go with the redecorated lounge, they are a pretty old set of Denons which have done a good service and sound quality has always been good, but I am OK to replace them to keep the peace. Having a look I have no idea which ones to go for, my budget for a set of 5 speakers and a subwoofer is up to 500 quid. I have an Onkyo AVR which doesn't need replacing so its just the speaker set. Has anyone got any recommendations including a good place to purchase from? They need to be fairly discreet (aka small) & black.

Many thanks!

Take a look at the B&W M1 speakers.

I have 5 of them for a 5.1 set up with a REL T-Zero sub.
That lot will be over £500 but you could use M1s for the fronts and cheaper speakers for the rear.

ETA I bought some of my AV gear from Sevenoaks Sound & Vision, who have an offer on some compact NAD speakers at the moment, which might get you closer to your budget:

Otherwise, have a look at what Richer Sounds have on offer maybe?
