I have to say I am big fan of Sonos and have had the kit for 10 years or so.

If I was going to start again, I would be looking elsewhere.

What is the best alternative (similar price band to current SONOS pricing)?

Was about to pull the trigger on some more Play:1's but in light of this I am tempted to look elsewhere now.

If you are looking at similar money wouldn't you be best sticking with Sonos? Otherwise you will end up with two systems that aren't integrated

Depends how you use them, I have a mix of Sonos and Deonon Heos speakers and just use Spotify Connect via the Spotify app.

The Play 1s are much better than the equivalent Heos, but I picked up the Heos soundbar + sub from Richer Sounds for £299 which is an absolute steal.

Just had an email from them with these details in it.

I've got a few devices already and it's too wife friendly to start again with a different setup. However, I do need another connect amp and suspect I'll jump now before the increase kicks in as second hand on ebay are not much less than a new one. Anyone seen any deals before the hikes (yeah, I know it's unlikely!)?

OK. Not sure that would work for me.

I was thinking of upgrading the living room which currently has a stereo pair of play ones.

I could get a 'normal' system and add a Chromecast for nothing or a connect for... Quite a bit. Would be a false economy if it wasn't integrated into the rest of the system.

I have a connect, play 5 and a connect amp (or the older one the ZP100) and think I am going to go over to Bluesound.

Hi Res and MQA compatible.

I have the Sonos Connect going straight in digitally to my Meridian speakers and compared with using a Meridian MS200 as an end point using Meridians Sooloos software or Roon the Sonos sounds so flat.

The sound stage on the Sonos just disappears, but the interface is family friendly, and so the Sonos stays. But hoping the Bluesound may close that gap somewhat.

Love my music but certainly no audiophile, Sonos is perfect for our house and we're pretty much covered now thankfully.

Thanks. Glad it's not just me. I was beginning to think I was mistaken when I couldn't appreciate how fantastic the Sonos was.

I love the Play 5 and like the connect amp with a pair of old MS10 speakers and a rel sub hidden away.

I just wish I hadn't compared it with the MS200, which is the same price by the way, as the difference was quite a shock, especially when you consider both is outputting a bit perfect digital stream.
But I am talking about when listening critically, at night, sat between the speakers, no one in the house making loads of noise etc.

I'm admittedly a little pissed off at the price hikes they're planning to incur - a 25% increase in the midrange stuff in their range is surely a tad excessive?

I was planning to purchase a playbar and extra play 1 for the lounge once we have moved into our new house, it needs renovations, and by the time the house will be liveable the new costs will have come in. It's making me think about other options now such as Jewel cubes etc.

I have managed to accumulate a *lot* of Sonos kit, but I'm struggling to remember the last time I bought an item new. Richer Sounds used to be a good source for ex-display kit. The classified on AVForums is a good source, and at a push ebay is ok.

The Connects/ZP90/ZP80s and Connect:Amps/ZP120/ZP100s usually sit somewhere well out of sight, so I'm not overfussed about cosmetic condition as long as they work.

The pricing is pretty crazy imo. I wouldn't buy anymore unless it was in some kind of sale.

Three main reasons.

First, I prefer an amp plus a pair of speakers to pairing a couple of P3/5s.

Secondly, for somewhere like a bathroom, an amp plus a couple of ceiling speakers is and ideal solution. Same with any room where you have speaker wire buried in the wall.

Thirdly, where I have an audio or AV amp and speakers already, a Connect acts as another source I can plug into the amp, rather than adding a second pair of speakers around the room.

I use P3/5s in bedrooms where the convenience of a single box using a single power outlet and minimal wiring is more valuable.

I think what they are referring to is the price.

So whilst if you have an existing system there is value in retaining Sonos why start with connect when then are other options?

Ah.

Having Sonos blinkers well and truly bolted on, I don't really know what competition there is now and what it does/doesn't do.

Anyone want to offer a quick run down?
