Afternoon folks. I am hoping for some advice regarding my imminent purchase of some new floor standers. I am currently using a pair of missions 734 but they have cracked drivers (common problem).

I have been in contact with Richer sounds and asked about the Focal 716 (£780), some Q acoustics 2050/3050 (£350/£500) and some Cambridge audio SX80’s (£370). They replied suggesting the Focal 726 (£1000), Monitor Audio Silver 8 (£1000) or the Tannoy XT6F (£1000) for my amplification.
My receiver is a Yamaha RXA1040 which I believe is 110W/c in 2 channel stereo. Not sure about the ratings in 5/7 channel.
Does anybody have experience of these speakers and would anyone like to suggest some others worth looking at.

I love the look of the Klipsch RP-260F’s but I can find anywhere near (or even in the Uk) that stock these. I am worried about the brightness off these speakers but believe this has been toned down somewhat in the latest RP offerings.

Do they have to be new?

You could pick some PMC FB variant and still have change left over from your £1k as just one example. And if you buy right, they may not depreciate a lot when you next upgrade.

I'e heard good things about the Focal range, they are meant to be decent.

I have the Monitor Audio Silver 10, absolutely love them. Mainly used for movies, but what ever I run through them sounds fantastic.

I have them running through a Pioneer SC-LX59.

Highly recommended, but, it is always worth going to RS and have a listen for yourself.

Thanks, i have bought a lot of HiFi gear second hand but usually under £100. I am not totally against buying used but maybe only from a dealer if that makes sense.

Ive had my old missions for almost 25 years in which they have been used daily (for music or HT) so hoping to get a similar life span out of my new ones.

Audition them all! Monitor Audio stuff is absolutely amazing at the moment to my ears though. I have a complete Bronze setup and really, really love it.

KamSandhu44, that sounds a nice set up. I am put off the monitor audio a little by the looks. Don't get me wrong, i think they look lovely but i think they look too modern for my lounge.

Do you have any local Hi-fi shops that will allow home demo?

I replaced my speakers a good few years ago (from MA GS10s, which were superb for the money so the floorstanders may well be too). I had a demo of several in a Hi-fi shop where they mirrored my kit as closely as they could - one set of floorstanders blew me away. I very nearly bought them there and then even though they were an order of magnitude more than I wanted to spend.
Tried them at home and they were flat and lifeless - absolutely useless (for some reason, floorstanders just don't work in my lounge, although obviously you won't have that problem given that it's what you use already). It took me a lot of home demos with a lot of different speakers before I ended up with the ones I have now.

Try these fellows and save an awful lot of money. Well, that is if you are not hell-bent on buying new speakers.

Ah, Wilmslow Audio as well.
Both outfits extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

It's a shame, they are really fantastic, plus their customer service is fantastic. But I get what you are saying, as well as sounding good, speakers have t ofit in to the environment.

You're right, i guess listening in store is better than not listening at all. I just wish i could audition the Klipsch somewhere near.

Spotted a pair of QUAD S-4 FLOORSTANDING SPEAKERS at another local dealers. Anyone heard of these?

I struggled with that link, i could not find any speakers for sale on the site. I was looking through a "letterbox" at work so might have missed it.

As mentioned second hand is the way forward in my opinion.
I picked up some mint Monitor Audio PL200 floor standers for £1600, a snip when considering their £5250 rrp, and miles better than anything I would have got new for the same money.
There are some ex display 726 on ebay for £650 which my be of interest.

Amazing speaker, one of my favourite speakers regardless of price.

I am just about to put a pair of the S-2 book shelves in my sitting room with a Rel sub.

I may take a serious look at these then. At £1200 they are double the price of the Klipsch Rp-260f which I initially wanted to try.

I did spot some on Amazon but after reading a warning on the Klipsch website about unauthorised dealers on amazon i was a little put off. Also, there is no way i could auction a pair first.

Does anybody know any UK contact that maybe able to help me?

I've been running Monitor Audio Gold bookshelf speakers in 2.1 mode for the last decade.

Absolutely love them

They were bought primarily for music but depending on the house I've been in I've sometimes also used them for a TV setup too. FWIW I've just plugged in a Monitor Audio 200 centre so I can now have TV in 3.1 and music in 2.1.

Either way the Golds sound great to my ears (teamed with a sub).

The amp is a CA Azur 640.

But it's Amazon themselves selling the speakers (not a third party) and the only true audition is in your own home
