I have some naim hifi equipment as well as a muso.

Also have some sonus stuff and currently pondering what to get for our gym.

I have some old mission 732 bookshelf speakers i would like to bring out of storage.

Naim have announced a few new items one is the Stat player. Its a cd player ripper network player and amp. So looks good and reasonable value for Naim considering what that standalone streamers cost.

The more reasonable alternative is a sonus amp as have more sonus the main hifi has a sonus connect running to its dac.

Question is i visited a local hifi shop yesterday to ask them for suggestions and they said they would not buy naim atm as the company is going through some financial issues. There is nothing on line about this but it's concerning as these products rely on are market software updates and is the big reason i like sonus.

Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I was surprised given their big new product announcements

I thought that Naim were doing OK. They are still sought after and plenty of people think their products are worth the very elevated price tags. I regard them as something of a Rolex of hifi - vastly overpriced, but well built and with a cult like following that will hear no criticism of the brand or product. I don't like either brand, or their products. Exceptions are the Naim Aro tonearm, which is lovely, I love unipivots, and the Rolex Perpetua (I think) which is rather nice and not in-your-face the way subs and the like are.

Home gym or public gym?

Financial worries- hope not as they currently have my unit in for repair! and would be very surprised if the case as Naim seem to be doing well having embraced digital early and got into John Lewis etc Naim merged with Focal a few years ago, then the combined group was bought by a French investment groups and put under the company Vervent Audio Group.

Was it an authorised Naim dealer? or just a local hifi shop.

Is Sonus the same as Sonos? I haven't tried the Muso/QB, but would expect it to be better than Sonos zp range I own. Also a big one for me is that Naim iradio that has HD streams for Radio which Sonos doesn't seem to offer as an option.

Also when you say stat player, do you mean the £125,000 Statement hehe or the Star player? Do you really need CD ripping, as would make more sense to rip CDs elsewhere and get a cd-less units with more output power etc. The New range isn't out till after June, so if you go for the current range haggle a good deal- Ive had a look at the new ones and new features such as the new display/hdmi arc isn't enough to make me want to upgrade.

If Naim are going bust then I hope I get my uniti Nova before they go. It'll no doubt become a collectors item smile

I have a muso, I like the sound and it has the benefit of both looking good and having a very good app through which I run tidal. Makes accessing music so much easier. I've px'd all my old cyrus kit to help fund the Nova. When I was dusting it off I realised I'd not used it in 5 years.

thanks for replies bad typos as original post was on my phone.

yes i mean the Star not the Statement.

Its not a Naim authorised dealer so i think thats prob why they were badmouthing the Naim.

Its a home gym so not a huge space however will prob be the one place i can regularly turn the music up despite the main lounge system being a lot better.

I am thinking to either get a Sonos Amp, or use my current Connect which feeds a DAC-V1 into an old Audilab 8000A we have and find something better for the main lounge system.

The problem is finding a good streamer for the lounge to replace the Connect if i go that route as the new Naim products are all multibox solutions and the older Naim streamers do seem a little overpriced and dated compared with the new ones.

that Nova is superb value i think if it had been out before i would certainly have gone for that over the Supernait2 amp i have which while being very good i would bet the Nova does well enough as an amp with t state of the art streaming system and DAC

im kinda stuck now as i do not want to spend that much on something that i just want to provide a digital signal to the DAC as i do think digits are digits and Naim dont really offer anything that will do this for a reasonable price

There are no financial concerns at all at Naim. The far east can't get enough of their top products.

This old chestnut of Naim fans not taking criticism well is, in my experience, very outdated. Most people on the various forums clearly own other brands too, and take no flak for saying so.

The Naim sound definitely divided opinion back in the 70s to the late 90s, but they now appeal to a wider range of tastes. (that's me being diplomatic )

Go have a listen, and a genuine Naim dealer will have no problem letting you try at home first.

I own its predecessor the Superuniti, have it paired with some PMCs, or rather did till it had a fault and went back to Naim for repair.

Apparently they are having teething issues with the new range, hence the delay.

Naim raised all price 10% in January, so was cheaper last year!!

Superuniti's and the rest of the old range will be very good value once the Nova is out, more so on the used market as Naim are crap with warranty compared to most others (limited to first owner only!) I've looked at the new range and nothing to make me want to upgrade.

had a think and decided on the Naim Atom due in May to drive the Mission 732s, which will link in nicely with the Muso in the study next door.

Is the Atom just an upgraded Muso without the speakers? I love my Muso but might consider getting another bigger system for another room.

I don't like the sonic signature from Naim, but that new range of streaming all in one units look amazing.

The Naim sound is very different now to the olive and chrome bumper era. Maybe give it a go? I've an all olive system and don't particularly like the newer sound.

I suppose that's one way of looking at it smile

From what I've read you can sync them sonos style so the music follows you room to room. I plan on using the muso in the study with the nova as the main music hub in the living room.

I'm still toying with the idea of a further separate system with a valve amp to listen to my vinyl on.

I'm interested in what speakers people are considering matching their new naim kit with.

I'm in the Meridian eco system, but wish Meridian would offer something similar to use with their DSP Speakers.
I suppose they do with Sooloos, which has been around for what, 10 years now, and Roon, but I like the traditional look of a unit as these new Naim ones are designed.

One of the nicest speakers I have heard in a very, very long time is the new Quad Z series, really good price points too. Super detailed but extremely smooth treble with their ribbon tweeters.

I like the idea of a brand built on accuracy of reproduction having different 'sounds'...

Naim isn't built on complete accuracy of reproduction as such? 'Pace Rhythm and Timing' is their thing.
