Any thoughts/advise on headphone amps?
I'm a bit of a late night gamer, so would like something to power some headphones that can take one [or preferably two] RCA red/white audio inputs. I do have an old integrated amp with a headphone socket, but the sound from that isn't very good.
Not looking to spend a great deal, and will put up with what I have if I'd need to spend £100+ on what I'm asking for.
If you have a digital out on your computer, then I'd recommend one of the external DACs with a headphone output. They apparently work very well as a headphone amp. If you don't have a digital output, then you could get a USB dac that has headphone out.I'm a bit of a late night gamer, so would like something to power some headphones that can take one [or preferably two] RCA red/white audio inputs. I also have the E210s and have to say there are superb Headphone - let down only by the I Pod I use them on really. However, I digress, Play.com is currently selling off Senheiser CX500s for only 15.99 (Normally £60). The sound is pretty good although they lack the soundstage of the E210s, which isn't surprising given the price difference. The noise isolation works well too.
As a set to wear whilst at the gym, i.e. they'll be destroyed by sweat in 6 months, they bloody brilliant at that price.

I have a couple of sets of Sennheiser CX300s (thought I'd lost the first set, bought some more, found the old ones). Perfect for listening to the iPhone on the tube and shutting out people-noise in the office, I find.As a set to wear whilst at the gym, i.e. they'll be destroyed by sweat in 6 months, they bloody brilliant at that price.
I've just bought a pair of Shure SRH440's. Closed back full size headphones.
They have just brought a new range out. The 440's are the middle set.
Must say they are very comfortable but need quite a bit more volume from the player than the SE530's. Then they sound very similar.
Pretty good value too at £69. My first foray into headphones.

Are you in Sweden ? I'm in Oslo, and everyone has these :
Koss Porta Pro, bang for buck I can't fault them. They are a bit anti-social of course as they pi$$ sound out on the bus.
Awsome, I was in Norway a few months ago visiting my brother and noticed the love for these but had no idea what they were. It reminded me of the Dr who episode where everyone turns into cybermen after all having the same earphones. I think I'm going to get my brother some so he can fit in.Koss Porta Pro, bang for buck I can't fault them. They are a bit anti-social of course as they pi$$ sound out on the bus.

Bought a pair of Shure E5c last year, and for such pricey headphones I've been really disappointed by them.
They are comfortable enough, but I find it difficult to get a decent seal in my ear with the supplied bungs, which came in three sizes. Only once they've been in for a few minuets and the rubber warmed up will they make a decent seal, and even then I don't find the sound great. Bass is severely lacking - so much so that I have wondered if they are a duff set. I haven't compared them to many other headphones, but curious to know if anyone else has had similar experience?
Have nice Senheisers at home, but use the Shures when out and about. Noise rejection is good, just sound no where near as good as I was expecting.
I never use the rubber ones, could never get the seal right and the bass seems to depend entirely on that. I only use the foam pieces now. They are comfortable enough, but I find it difficult to get a decent seal in my ear with the supplied bungs, which came in three sizes.
