Hail to thee, Funkus Gibbonatum.

It's not st, is it?

The THX mode really works when in situ with appropriate lighting.

Your welcome kind Sir.

It is indeed not st - the IMAX scenes in Dark Night on Blu-Ray in THX mode simply blows the mind smile

edit: forgot to mention the most important thing: Go an view your panels before you buy, and buy the panel YOU prefer. I can't stress that enough. (Make sure you are comparing like for like - that the source to all 3 panels is identical.)
It annoyed the crap out of me when I was looking for an HDTV that most shops had them hooked up to a really crap picture. I was suprised that Curries seemed to have the best setup, and ended up getting about the best price from them too. I know someone who went TV shopping with his PS3 and got them to plug it in to the TVs he was looking at so he could compare the picture from a single source. biggrin

You're absolutely right. I found Comet not too bad, but did expeirence the same thing. I was looking for HD performance on a nice new tele, and many had crap company DVDs running through and through, or at best an HD from BBC or something - not a full on Blu-Ray (which would kind of make sense!).

Sorry Norts, but having the knowledge without comprehending it, is like making an apple tart, but not having an oven to bake it in.
If you understood what you've read/learnt, you'd know aside from a select few LCD's, the rest of what's on the market doesn't equal Plasma, let alone exceed it.
Samsung are mediocre TV's at the best of time, but as you probably have one, it's natural for you to offer it as the best thing since sliced bread - unfortunately that's not the reality though.
If mediocre means innumerous 5-Star / Highly Recommended / Editors Choice awards throughout the AV media, then I'm all for lashings of mediocre. smile
Sorry mate, but it is well known that most What Hi-Fi reviews are hopelessly biased towards
Samsung and Sony Products, Samsung are now the Biggest sellers with about 35% of market share
So the Advertising departments of the UK media dont want them upset as they spend so much in
advertising. One interesting fact in the firm I work for there are 12 sales staff and everyone owns a plasma as the primary set at home. Don't forget that in most high street stores the lighting levels are about 20 times what you have at home, and at this intensity it really favours LCD technology the plasma sets look hopelessly washed out, but when veiwed in a normal room lighting level the Plasma literally walks all over any LCD.

The JVC 47DV1 is a real sleeper having a truely stunning Picture when set up and optimized properly
and it quietly ensnares people who can use their own judgement not the warped veiws of a hack reporter
who probably wouldn't know how to set up a TV if their life depended on it!

But the defacto choice is the Panasonic TX-P46G10/G15 set it's a real stunner and ticks all the
boxes

If the only 5-star / recommended etc.etc. review for the B8000 came from What HiFi magazine then you might be onto something. Many of the reviews included tech testing, rather than just what the journo thought of the panel.

I have a plasma on my wall, have done for years.

I'm open-minded as to what to buy next.

As it turns out, I'm most probably going to go with the Panny 46" G10. I stand to save a fair bit of money over either of the Sammys, and as I intend to drive my media viewing via a PS3, I've decided that I don't really need the dlna functionality at all. I've just been over to Selfridges yet again, to check both out and I think I actually like the G10 better - strangely I like it a lot more than the G15.

I've added the AVR1910 into the amp selection. I've added the Monitor Audio R270 HD10 package for the surround speakers.

It will soon be time to purchase biggrin
