New LCD TV - why is picture so bad?
Discussion
The main problem is that the quality of most of Skys standard def channels is very poor. A CRT hides a lot of digital compression artefacts where decent LCD/Plasma TVs show them in all their gory detail. Either put up with it (and it does get less distracting after a while) or shell out for a Sky HD box + subscription (or one of the Freesat HD equivalents if you don't mind a rather more limited channel selection), or HD cable if available.
I bought an LG LH3000 1080P LCD - so not the 100Hz model but not far away from it. I have to say that the SD picture quality really was excellent through a standard Sky box but the caveat is that you need to put some time and effort into manually adjusting the settings.
There are exhaustive threads on avforums about your specific model and what settings to use which you can search but initially ensure that your Sky box is outputting RGB and 16:9 and that your scart cable has all the RGB pins, then make sure the scart cable is plugged into the F(ull) scart socket on the back of the TV. Set the aspect ratio on the TV to 16:9 then try using the picture wizard to get a good picture baseline. Turn off 100Hz, dynamic contrast etc. then manually adjust brightness and backlight and sharpness right down (somehwere around 30%) and increase the contrast to get good black blacks. Colour can be adjusted to preference I like something around 60% (a bit hyperreal) after a little playing around you'll have it looking good!

Really sorry, but this is not a choice TV. Can you get a copy of a consumer magazine, choose a better TV and get a refund for the one you have...I don't think you will ever be happy with it. Unfortunately, Richer Sounds does have a bit of a reputation for getting those products, often from good manufacturers, that are the "lemon" of the range...and sell them off cheap!

Yeah, because consumer magazines give completely impartial advice, don't they?
