Been toying with the idea of a new tele for sometime now....... but with seeing a thread showing 50" Panny G20 for £650 it got me thinking.... a few days latter whilst waiting for a cab, tapped all my details into laptop and then battery died..... bummer.

Luckly it did, having done some research what with the buzzing issues, blacks risng I became nervous...... bit more research required, and up the budget...... have now plumped for LG 47LE8900 smile ......wish me luck in my new relationship hehe

Now what to do with my 40" Tosh scratchchin

You made the right decision! I have the 50G20 and do have the buzzing, but it has settled down a little, you don't notice it after a while - and also if you get it from John Lewis you have 5 years to get it sorted, I've been busy recently but will get onto them shortly about it.

The set is well worth it - we keep watching things just because they look so amazing, even just up scaling DVDs on it let alone BluRay! We keep putting an old DVD on just to see the best scenes and then end up watching the whole thing as it looks so great! It has also increased my scores on Xbox, you can just see SO much more on screen that you won't have noticed before.

This. I really had stopped noticing it but was watching the GP Sunday morning with the volume low so as not to disturb everyone and I noticed it again.

I have a 42G20 and I can hear it buzzing - if stand right in front of it and lean over to plug a cable in! Otherwise, it's not notiecable from any sensible sitting position.

I've had it a year and no issues with the black levels either. It's akin to worrying about buying an M3 because the Vanos WILL fail.....it's a very small minority of owners that experience the problem and is blown out of all proportion by internet doom merchants IMHO.

Most of the time the raising blacks problem is because the set is in Dynamic mode, put it in Cinema/THX modes and you'll never
have a problem with it.

As to the Buzzing, every flat panel irrespective of the technology that makes it work makes a noise, generally the buzzing
coincides with large areas of peak white on the screen (this is where plasma sets are driven the hardest it takes more power)
the noise is greatly reduced if it's run in Cinema/THX mode with the brightness at sensible settings.

I've also found that mains quality makes a huge difference as well and a basic filtered mains block can reap some benefits.

I've always run mine in THX mode since day one.

The picture has improved in the few days we've had it on demo I think.

Panny have produced this years ultimate set I think......
