TVRCC Burghley Horse Power - Saturday drives
Discussion
What a laugh.
The run from Doddington was great. I had the satnav coordinates, the pace notes and a map. We fared better than most in staying on track.
What a hoot, when we came to a crossroads at a set of traffic lights I was in a line of 20 plus tiv's when the lights went red, we stopped. In the opposite direction coming head-on was another line of 20 plus tiv's.I could not stop laughing, Not sure who was correct.
At certain points TVR were coming from all directions, left, right, all angles. Most importantly we all seemed to get back to the pub.
May I take this opportunity to thank Longers for a great drive. Ian where did you find those roads on a Saturday afternoon that had no traffic on them at all. Even at T junctions we all seemed to get straight out without getting split. I did not notice any pot holes either.
Thanks again, a job very well done. Looking forward to next year already.

That crossroads was one of a couple of missing instructions from the written version, and only about 6 had satnav! All added to the fun, and I know from organising TiTTs twice that it's so easy to assume a direction is obvious.......
Those roads were fantastic, as the previous poster said, not a pothole in sight, fast, flowing, interesting, traffic free, great scenery, great views. I will be saving that route for a future run-out. And wasn't the reaction of the locals great? Mums and dads with their kids, waving and taking photos....lots of interest.
Very good adherence to village speed limits. Well done chaps.

A Grand Day Out........
Expected 30-34 cars eventually swelled to 66 in number
But our organiser wasn't phased......
Nice to welcome Oliver & Co-driver ( not Steve McQueen! ) all the way from Germany,
good effort! See you in June at the 3NG.
The Rumble was so much fun, thanks Longers, excellent choice of route especially taking in the magnificent cement works
Austin really enjoyed the run, thanks to Dave M for a bit of shepherding at times of confusion

Thanks for the positive comments guys, much appreciated.
It wasn't just down to me because Dave, Gozzy & Alan help enormously by just about getting everyone in the car park
After watching us leave the pub and then waving to everyone at the top of the hill from Stockerston several miles into the route my wife & daughter returned home (in Uppingham) to be confronted by TVRs coming from all directions at the crossroads and a drunk bloke in white trousers shouting "you should've got a Ferrari"!
When I got home...
Mrs L'rs "I didn't think the route you'd planned went through Uppingham"
Me "It didn't..."

Answer - you were all wrong, that set of lights in Uppingham wasn't even on the route After watching us leave the pub and then waving to everyone at the top of the hill from Stockerston several miles into the route my wife & daughter returned home (in Uppingham) to be confronted by TVRs coming from all directions at the crossroads and a drunk bloke in white trousers shouting "you should've got a Ferrari"!

Sums it up nicely!QBee said:

That crossroads wasn't in the notes because it wasn't on the route! I thought the notes were accurate but I'll check again for future reference. If you can remember any specific points which need changing let me know QBee said:

Absolutely Really makes a difference to my enjoyment of the day when everyone behaves responsibly Comments only relate to printed directions
It either needs something like "at traffic light cross roads, turn left, so keeping petrol station on your right", or some direction on the way into Uppingham that avoids the town centre.
About 6 miles after the start we were heading for Morborne and in a village we had to turn left with nothing on the printed directions. I knew i was going to Morborne, and spotted the road sign said Morborne left. At that point most of the first 15 or so cars in our group (I started at the back of group 1), approached the junction from the opposite direction! They had presumably gone straight on, realised the error and turned around.
They are the two I can remember. I used the printed instructions, but I double spaced them and increased the point size of the font before I printed them, so that I could fly solo and read them without my glasses.
Fantastic routs, lovely variety of terrain, nice villages, but most of all great driving roads. Well done sir!!

Looks like the high energy levels built up by 66 TVRs and their rumblings in Rutland on Saturday have finally been released...

Uppingham really did shake just after 7am this morning and the rumble was certainly loud... but not as loud, long or colourful as Saturday afternoon

The point QB is that my map had you turning left as you exited the high st west so nobody should have got to the light crossroads at all . Instructions are only valid if you are on route surely ? I know uppingham so turned the correct way while a broken down S pointed everybody behind me in the wrong direction . All this however doesn't matter , most found the way round and it was a cracking weekend .It either needs something like "at traffic light cross roads, turn left, so keeping petrol station on your right", or some direction on the way into Uppingham that avoids the town centre.

Not doubting the map in any way, I hadn't printed it out as i prefer written instructions, and the route had been supplied very kindly by you guys in three formats, map, written instructions, and itn file - I was following the written instructions.Dale
We definitely tuned left at the broken down S (pale blue one emitting steam?) I saw it break down in my mirror as I turned left!! But was that the one to which you are referring? I seem to remember that was somewhere else.
As I remember Uppingham, we seemed to proceed quite simply into the middle, looking for the turn left in the instructions:
23 Miles. Road bears sharp left. Pass 2 sets of No Entry signs to T junction. Turn right on to Leicester Road. We did that, very clear.
24 Miles. Turn left on to A47 sign posted to Leicester. This is what we were looking for.....we got to those traffic lights by the petrol station, but there were no signs, so we went straight on.....realised immediately we were wrong, as it was clearly residential, so went round the roundabout about 200 yards down that road and came back to the lights, to see a road sign opposite and right against a building wall pointing to the (A47). That road sign was invisible from the other direction. Followed that and then turned left onto the A47 as instructed.

Which broken down pale blue S?I didn't think S's broke down
My own pale blue S performed faultlessly throughout, only glitches were a result of trying to navigate & drive simultaneously
Oh, & I had to stop at mile 54 'coz I was absolutely bursting, it's not easy driving cross-legged
I did see a black V8S that had run put of petrol, but never saw the relief Griff that went searching for a petrol station.

There was definitely an S behind my navy Chim in one of the bigger places. We queued for a junction where we turned left, and in my mirror I noticed the steam pouring from his passenger wheel arch. He pulled over to the right to sort it.
IIRC he was two up, and either he was boiling, or his passenger had peed on the exhaust manifold
