thats one of the reasons for picking mallory, they have new circuit management who are keen to promote the circuit, so easier to deal with than the corporate MSV, BARC and BRSS run most of the other circuits. anglesey and Coombe are independent but we're not going to coombe and Angelsey is a great circuit but people would complain its off the edge of the known earth
Anglesey would be kick ass as its a triple header over 2 days so plenty of racing, the camping areas are plentiful and offer great views, plus there is an all night bar and disco for those who really want to wig out in the evening. Stalls could be set up in any one of numerous paddocks, or even the infield hairpin bit that's closed off. There's basic food in the restaurant or great food in a couple of nearby pubs. It's a great place to all meet and camp overnight, watch some great racing at an epic circuit and be able to hang out over a weekend instead of just a day at a country house. It's a stunning place with wonderful scenery and great roads (the old bill are few and far between too wink for those of you who have never been. Crikey, I sound like a rep for the Anglesey Tourist Board hehe Spectators can even have a karaoke off with Boss Racings Rob (he's a crooning legend).

It's a great venue but in reality it completely rules out the exact people the event at Mallory would be aiming to attract and that's the owner who will be driving there and back for a half day outing.

As a southern softy from that there London, a long standing Pher & TVRCC RO I've done my bit over the years to support the cc meets, particularly as one of our locals (Tim Davis) has won the championship three times!

I've sorted TVR only parking (for anyone in a Tiv, car club member or not) & stood at the entrance to Brands Hatch handing out free tickets to TVR owners. The first time around we counted over 120 TVRs parked on South Bank! More recently we've had an area opposite the pits but numbers have dwindled to almost nothing.

I think a lot of this is because a lot of people have 'been there & done that' over the years. It hasn't helped that over the last few years the Brands Hatch meet has clashed with Le Mans & a lot of the active locals head over the water that weekend. We also used to travel to Thruxton, Snett & Castle Coombe but apart from Snett none of them (including Brands) are on the fixture list. It has to be said there is precious little time given to TVR racing, it's quite possible to spend several hours trackside to see just 40 minutes of what you went there for & a lot of the other racing just doesn't hold peoples interests. (I watched 3 hours of Beetle racing once & thought I was going to die of boredom!)

Together with the racers the club supported hospitality at each meet, it's great fun putting up a gazebo in the pissing rain but if that what it takes we were willing to give it a go, same applies to handing out tea/coffee/biccies etc but the fact remains the main draw of the day was a tiny part of it, & I feel there lies your problem.

I understand this is beyond the control of the racers, as is the fact that the dates & times are often confirmed stupidly close to the event & by then many people who would love to come along are already booked.

I don't know the answer to your question but the idea of tagging an event to CC racing has been done before & worked a treat. But from experience trying to get the support of the company that own many of our favourite race tracks practically impossible!

I guess part of the problem may have its roots in the same reasons that TVRCC membership numbers are down to around 5K, and why there is barely a single UK TVR club organised trackday these days, when there used to be several each year, some actually being oversubscribed. The appeal for me in the early days was that the cars were supposedly the same, resulting in close racing and the ability to attract very good drivers to the series, meaning a high profile event and good spectator numbers.

Without getting into the whys and wherefores of the present situation, small grids, having a mix of cars, some of which were never factory models, and all running together, just doesn't do it for me.

I have just come across this thread.

I haven been to a few and really enjoy them, the problem I have is fitting it in around family commitments and locality.

Brands and Silverstone are my closest tracks, I hate Silverstone as a spectator but love brands and would attend but I need time to organise family stuff, more publicity of when the races are would help me no end.

Having said that and having just found the fixtures list Mallory is e closest for me and that is a 4 hour round trip.

Please get brands back on the schedule!

I am very sad of the situation as well.

I absolutely wanted to see a race as long as the old warhorses are still fighting. Even my wife managed to fly over to see that particular race.
The qualifying happened in the morning and the eventual TVR race was scheduled for the last race in the late afternoon.
So a long day waiting, but we took the opportunity for a lovely walk through the pits and some nice chats there.
Eventually the TVR Race was sadly canceled shortly before the start, because of a major accident in the previous Jap-Cxxp race.
Very very disappointing.

As already mentioned, I also agree that the mix of cars in the TVR races at the moment doesn't help to attract, but seems to be the only way to keep things alive.

If there are plans for a major TVR Challenge support event I would
really like to contribute to it.
I am very confident to get quite a group of Austrian TVRs together to join the event and I would even bring the Racer for a reunification.

To make it possible and attractive for as many people as possible, the date
of the event should be set minimun 7-8 months earlier.
I am quite positive, that even some other countries of our crazy TVR friends from the continent would like to join in as well.

To be honest, I have no idea of the legal possibilities and maybe it is a can of worms, but....
Would there be a way to organise a Tuscan Challenge race on this event in a kind of a track day?
Maybe this would give further Challenge cars the opportunity to join in the races easily enough without having to comply to the actual racing equippment requirements.

Anybody a clue,
roughly how many Tuscan Challenge cars are around rolling on their own power?

I would be surprised if there would be anyone standing in the way of the Tuscan Challenge cars coming along to the TVRCC track day. You don't have to be a member to take part, and there were only about 40 cars at last year's event - the track at Cadwell Park takes about 60.

To do that safely will mean less track time for everyone else, so maybe not so straight forward...

Brands is my local track too and great for spectators. You could see a few Tuscans there as part of CSCC in May. smile
