Oldest Car You've Ever Driven
Discussion
Just out of curiosity, what is the oldest car you have driven? And is older the better?
I expect people my own age, 22, are probably unlikely to have driven anything from before the 21st century.
I won't be surprised at all if the PH demographic will have driven older cars though.
Personally, the oldest car I have driven is my old 1972 MG Midget. It was great fun and provided me with plenty of stories!

The oldest I have driven was very memorable for the wrong reasons.
1966 D reg Reliant regal van that belonged to my mother.
It was used for the tip run and other general duties and should have been left at the tip.
It managed to keep going for years till a young lad on a 50cc moped hit it and that was that.
In one respect it was a shame to see it go as the damage was so minimal but it was swapped for a robin van which at least had a heater that worked.

I'm 27 and I have an Austin 7 from 1936. I drive it most days when the weather is good, only short journeys and mainly just for enjoyment (i.e. not going anywhere in particular, just going for a drive)
It's a whole different experience going for a drive in it compared to any more modern cars. It's also quite a trick just fitting in the thing as a 6'6" bloke!

1963 Alfa Romeo Guilia 1600, just a bit older than me. Used for a couple of European Road trips. Astonishing in some respects because it's a '50's design and it could keep up with modern traffic and never felt out of its depth. But, probably put me off genuinely older cars as a regular proposition. The list of issues is long but certainly include:
Steering column, 4 foot steal pole pointing at your heart,
Drum brakes that brake each wheel differently,
Lack of door seals, leaking roof,
Constant need for preventative maintenance
Still a fabulous experience though and I'd recommend living with a car the same age as you for a glimpse of the past.

I'm ashamed to say only a 1954 Riley RME though I've ridden in several pre-war cars. Currently my '63 Riley 1.5 is in use most weekends, sometimes in the week too - drive 'old', it'll focus your mind!
