How many miles will it need?

Don't forget to factor in quite a few just getting to Cadwell - we can do an oil change for you if you get there for 7am. whistle

I should sign up for this now I’ve heard that. Offsetting the cost of a service oil change and filter makes the day very attractive all of a sudden.
Are you on the tools Anthony at 7 am then.. lol I get what you mean which I assume is it’s a friendly bunch and we’ll help you get going again.
Oil change and trackday in one hit, that’s high value stuff thumbup

Ironically, my car handles a lot better with a passenger on board, it seems to balance it better.
I am looking forward to being on track with the blue Tuscan again - last year was huge fun.

Looking at your profile Softtop, it's a shame you don't still own your Saab 9-5 - I still own two, and we could have brought our Saabs to give Phazed a (slim) chance of overtaking something getmecoat

Joking aside, I have enjoyed doing trackdays with Phazed for almost 10 years now, and it will be really good to be on track together again. I have missed our track days, and it is entirely my fault, as in my grey beardy days well past statutory retirement age I have suddenly been given a choice of a doing lot of work or very little, and have had to opt for the former, which is why I am at my desk at 6am on a Saturday.
I have migrated to Mercedes now, still love the Saab estate though, my BIL bought one on the strength of the quality, actually, he bought a 9-5 convertible and a 2.1 estate.

Seriously, if Martin sources the oil and filter, and sump plug washer, we can swap them over easily enough it if we have advance notice - just needs me to bring something into which to collect the used oil and then dispose of it. I always have my socket set with me on track days, and my low entry (oooh matron) jack etc, and I am dobbing in any of my friends who are spanner-competent and won't complain that it would be so much easier to do at home on their 2-post lift. getmecoat

I'll be attending - this will be my first trackday so I've booked the instructor and will be in the novice group.

My primary aim is to learn more about how the handling of the car and become a better driver rather than set any lap times.

I'll probably be slow so apologies if I get in the way of anyone!

Also a question - I need to get a helmet but what type of helmet is required - is an open face one ok if I keep the roof on? (I have a Chimaera 450)

Or is it possible to rent helmets at the circuit and do they have XL sized ones for my big head!

Thanks!

I’m sure you won’t be holding up too many people!

As for helmets, a full face is best, in fact most track day operators won’t allow anyone to drive a convertible with an open face helmet, even with the roof up.

They may rent them but if you go down to a decent motorcycle clothing outlet, there are a lot of reasonably priced helmets which you can keep for future events!

Quick question - how did you book the instructor? I’ve probably missed it, but not seen that option anywhere. Thanks

I did my first track day with the club at Cadwell last August. I just bought a Sparco X1 helmet for about £75 through one of the online distributers on eBay. Fortunately the pre ordering measuring instructions seemed to work out fine. I was wondering if it would be a waste of money, but after my first visit, I'll be there again for this track day and hopefully many more!

I found a pair of gloves essential too. I had some karting ones that had grip bits on the palm, my hands got very sweaty while out on the circuit, for some reason..... driving

Haha, that’s something that sounds extreme to some but I too prefer to wear race gloves. I tend to feel the wheel better and grip it less. It’s a confidence thing for me as it’s a form of protection,, from what I’m not sure but I just feel more comfortable with them on. I think I can see my hand movements through my peripheral vision better with gloves which is also important data.
Another reason is without harnesses you will be leaning on the wheel a bit and using both legs to steady your body in the seat, I tend to lean my knee into the bodywork and transmission tunnel to compensate the effect so I stay central in the seat. I in fact pull on the wheel with my trailing hand if the G’s get extreme to do the same thing. You have to pull yourself into the corner rather than be chucked laterally by the forces. Gloves give you more grip and ability to do that.

There’s something about putting your helmet and then gloves on which signifies a real change of situation and has always made me concentrate better.
I now drive lots of cars without gloves on track at slightly slower speeds so I’m used to it but I’d always wear gloves and decent race boots if driving my own car on track.

It’s gonna be great day I can feel it in the TVR wind thumbup

Hi I phoned up the TVRCC office to book my place on the trackday and let them know I was a 1st time trackday novice and would like instruction. So I think if you just ring them up they may be able to add you (provided they still have availability) I don't think there is any additional charge for instruction either.

Philip.

Hi - I like the look of that sparco X1 - do you know if it complies with (to quote the blurb on the TVRCC website) "the current safety requirements designed for circuit use, or Motorsport UK/ACU/FIM/FIA standards"?

Thanks!

On a different subject it will be nice to meet in person QBee, Phazed, Classic Chim and the other prolific posters from these forums at Cadwell.

You have all helped me out a lot in my first year of TVR ownership through your replies to questions I have searched up on the forum or asked directly!
