I am not yet an owner of a satnav for my Chim, but I would like to know how well the download went for todays event for those of you that have. Try as I might to read n memorise todays route, I still found myself tailing onto any TVR that had a satnav and looked like they knew where they were going, and most seemed to, others appeared as clueless as me.

Roadworks messed it up for me, the junction I was told to take for the 0630 car park meeting was coned off and the SatNav jusst kept looping me round and back to the same coned off junction, so in the end we caught up with some TVRs and followed them, but I got a speed camera flash in the process frown I think I missed the majority of the locations on the route as I just followed other cars - didn't see many tunnels. Still had fun though for my first event biggrin

They are certainly not perfect.
Took me four hours yesterday to load the fecking file as I forgotten how to do it, last year it took me 10 minutes.rolleyes

However they are great tools if you use your loaf and not blindly follow instructions as they sometimes get confused when they lose signal between tall buildings and tunnels in London.

I'm keeping the itinerary file it would be cool to use it just for a random fun drive around London. The roadworks put such spanners in the works though!

The .ITN file was fantastic but as others have said it got well screwed by the road closure as it then kept on trying to get you back to where you'd just "missed" ... I ended up deleting points from the start of it as we worked through the drive but still ended up repeating sections multiple times. biggrin

Only suggestion I'd make (and this really is taking the p*ss I know as I wouldn't want to take on trying to organise such a run) would be to have separate .ITN files for each section of the route, each starting and ending going from one RV to the next?

T'was my first "proper" PH day out after getting Chim and it was nice to see that the friendly attitude of the TVR crowd is still alive and well - just got to sort out the list of "failures" from the session now. (Driving 75 miles in the p*ss*ng rain without windscreen wipers was fun - I can *REALLY* recommend Rain-X guys!)

Anyway - my absolute respect and admiration for all concerned today! Top banana!

All suggestions are gratefully received, but I don't think this is needed Phil. On my TomTom you can open the itn file and "mark as visited" the problematic waypoint. Doing what you suggest causes more problems - trust me, i tried it once paperbag

On route, if you miss a point, go into the itinerary file, highlight that point and as many others you think you've missed (one by one) Are you taking note Clive ? hehe & mark "visited" it will/should take you to the next way point... smile

Easy biggrin Allegedly hehe

LOL - I haven't ventured into the itinerary bit of TomTom before so it is very likely that I missed that option whilst trying to work out where I was... biggrin

I'm only a Tech Support Manager so I don't actually know anything useful... hehe

Bloody good day Blues - enjoyed it hugely and I've just worked out that in two days I've got through nearly £250 in fuel! biggrin

Blues thaks for organising this and sorting out the the itn files.

I apologise to all who might have followed me at times when I got a bit lost.... Not the itn file itself I think, but the confusion of the TomTom unit; like at Harvey Nics when it insisted on telling me to turn left, but actually seemed to mean RIGHT......

So sincere apologies to all. Next time, it will be a matter of reading the route properly before hand and following it on a map.

PPPPPP biggrin

Files were great, my TomTOm software screwed it up for me.

Some how it dropped the route just after the Rotherhithe tunnel and sent me straight to Ace! Unfortunately I had 4 other cars following me at this point.

Missed over half the route but did manage to head back into town to see that red monster truck nearly wedge itself on Battersea Bridge. laugh

Must practice more with .itn files......

This tunnel running takes a bit of practise I think. I at least made it to the start point and did most of the tunnels this time. Missed out on the regroup at Battersea and breakfast at the Ace though as I was knackered (Jetlag and getting no sleep the night before) so I just headed home when I got lost for the final time.

I went wrong many times after coming out of tunnels and the TomTom had no signal and I missed the turn just outside.

I think a little more preparation by me is needed. Maybe actually read the printed instructions(!) and have them with me and not just rely on the SatNav. Thinking that I could write doen a bullet list of the important waypoints (the tunnels) and where the first turn afterwards is to stick on the sunvisor. Need to play with these intineraries so I am much more familiar with the things I can do to get back on track.

Got hopelessly lost after Castle Baynard street, somehow got into the city again and then my satnav had a mental breakdown. Kept telling me I was on a completely different road to the one I was on. At this point I should have pulled over and grabbed the a-to-z and fiddled with the SatNav to get me back on track. .

Thanks Dave for organising I think I need to practise this again.

The itn file works great. What you need to do is familiarise yourself with the route beforehand, then remember the main points, tunnels, battersea etc. Then when you lose signal and it starts routing you around the houses, you mark as visited everything upto the next main point. It helps having an A3 map printed out on the passenger seat as well

Funny this year, TomTom must have made a killing in the market as everyone was going the same wrong way biggrin

4th year and I still haven't been the exact route yet, but bits of London are getting familiar.

Have to agree and tbh I was temnpted to go back round after not making most of it so I knew some of the route for next time.

I reckon having turnings a few hundred yards after the tunnel exit may help a little though. wink Just an idea, no shooting me down.
