Before the grime is washed off my car, i've already been asked a few times about doing a summer TiTT. Some of you may recall that we did one last year in August, ending at Silverstone for the Tuscan challenge race (i think it rained that day too rolleyes )
About 25 cars went to Silverstone (who actually looked after us very well, gave us our own "clubhouse" and grandstand.

The key problems with a "summer" run as i see it are:

  1. Still no guarantee about the weather, but i do agree it is less likely to be as wet, and will be lighter
  2. The Ace cafe will not give us a summer date, as summer Sundays are reserved for Bikers
  3. there will always be people who are away on holiday
  4. There were very few people who attended last year's summer TiTT
Putting these issues aside for a moment though, if there is a demand, then we should do one.

What i need from you great people are some ideas for the end venue, which needs to provide clean loos a hearty breakfast and sufficient, safe parking.

My thoughts include:
Goodwood (although they are very busy at weekends)
Brands Hatch - i'm awaiting dates for the Tuscan Challenge meet
Silverstone - again awaiting dates for the Tuscan Challenge meet
Mercedes Benz World - German smile
A beach somewhere?

So, i open it up to the great TVR public - what do you suggest?
Feel free to post here, or PM me if you are shy biggrin

Good idea Lewis, and Brighton. I'll add them to the list.
Its just a bugger of a way to get back for some of our West and Northern friends. But at a later stage, we can have a vote

sounds good Dave, never been on a summer Titt redfaceoeer:, do you start a lot earlier to avoid traffic congestion later in the morning?

a tuscan challenge meet afterwards sounds good to me, or even Goodwood as its on my way homehehe

I'd love to do another summer one - subject to work of course rolleyes

A TVR based race meet would be another good finishing point as facilities and space exists.

BRSCC TVR Challenge page which would be great, but they don't have many races.

TVR Speed championship page which has more meets across the season

It was a good run last August and David is right, we were very well looked after at the circuit and it is at least pretty central, which might tip the balance in Silverstone's favour over Brands.

Goodwood is a schlapp from the west end, with some great driving roads and some not so great, so it would be lunch or afternoon tea not brekkie required by the time we got there. Mind you, Petworth full of tiv's, hmmmm ears

Brooklands would be better than MB World probably, if Silverstone or Brands come up with nothing. Its next door and not a showroom full of Stuttgart metal.

We could always just rock up at PH towers in Teddington ? We could feed the hamsters.

Would the Ace do a bank holiday Monday if Sunday's are taken by the bike fraternity ? Early May ?

might sound daft, but Blenhiem Palace just outside Oxford has absolutely huge grounds, and have seen car shows held there, so perhaps they would be tvr friendly with the mention of a charity event, easy to get to from london to.?

I think the idea for a summer run is a good one but as you say people are on holiday or may have other plans during the(hopefully) good weather hence why not so many attend? Perhaps naming a date early in the year may give people the opportunity to put it in their diaries early and less chance of double-booking, plus give you an idea of how many peeps will show interest in attending?

As for the venue, I think attending some sort of race meeting (preferably TVR) would be a great although I don't know if I would be able to keep my eyes open after such an early start biggrin

We had a South Coast run earlier this year which ended at Goodwood, about 120 cars. They opened up for breakfast and let us park in the paddock area.

Goodwood is a great venue, i'm happy to have a chat with them if you like.

however if we're talking about tunnels then i guess London needs to be the focal point so any final destiniation needs to be within driving distance but with plenty of car parking space.

so if Goodwood is too far then How about something slightly further west from the Ace, either up the A40, or the M4 so we get the final A40 hanger lane underpass or even better the heathrow tunnels?

maybe somewhere like the runneymede hotel or even Virginia Water?

I agree with tubbystu, late april may sounds good, especially a date where the kids are not on school holidays, as that will affect attendace levels as well.

I would be up for a summer one and know my mates would also. Like the idea of ending up at a Tuscan Challenge race or a beach of some sort.

If you want to push the boundaries on dates stay within BST, ie you will get dates that go into early October, that way you may still get the Ace Cafe? The weather is not something to base a decision on, you have to set a date and go with it.

personally I thought the Ace cafe was a bit of a let down, it has its iconic status but the cafe and the car park are to small for the numbers of cars that turned up on sunday, Harsh`s idea of virginia waters sounds good with the extra tunnels on route would be a bonusyes

Just to throw some ideas around. In keeping with the 'tunnels' theme plus a good run and a great place to meet for fun and food there are tunnels on the M25 at Dartford, by the M11 and under the A10, the Hatfield tunnel on the A1 then on to Silverstone, Snetterton or Bedford Autodrome for a meet possibly joining a trackday? Not sure about food at Bedford but Snetterton and Silverstone has good cafes. Maybe Clacket services starting point?
