TiTT 5 - ideas?
Discussion
I must admit, it was a slog getting to the smoke for my son and I and then doing the drive around london , then the slog back, still can't belive I did it as was up at dark 'o clock saturday . Having said that I wouldn't have missed that run out and getting to meet such a great bunch of people for anything, it was a fantastic day we really enjoyed it and the look and sound of all of your beautiful cars , we look forward to the next , but I think I'll take some of the other 'Northern Boys' advice and get digs prior to the event to be fresh n ready to go , so I'm sure that wherever you decide upon we'll be there. After all most of Man Utd fans have to make the long trip north for every home game, it can't be that hard.

I think finishing by the sea would be great but there are members that come from Manchester etc and asking them to then drive even further south would decrease the take up rather than encourage it.
I was thinking something more Midlands based, not just for my own convenience, but maybe somewhere up the M40/M1 corridors - somewhere within about 90 minutes north of London, 90 minutes south of Manchester.
There are a few good tunnels around Birmingham, but I don't think it could cope with the number of cars seen at the weekend.
However, as much as the London/November thing is not ideal for everyone, there are a number of other TVR events around the country at various times, so there may be a risk of overshadowing them or diluting their attendances. In theory an early TiTT run to the Midlands could negate the need for Chimfest/ROAR for example.
I may only be a veteran of one, but IMHO TiTT has it's own identity - it is a blast through the London/South of England tunnels at a time of year significant to the events at the factory at that time of year. Would moving its location, or changing the format not just defeat the purpose of the TiTT? Would it just become another organised ride out, much in the same way as the regions already organise?
Or off on a tangent, maybe a TiTT on tour sub-event?!

I don't think it was a question of moving the event, just finding a different local (ish) destination that can cater/park lots of cars Blues said:
I have a plan formulating as we speak, and its looking like a date in May (Personally, i would like to avoid dates that clash with other TVR-related events).

Or maybe one a bit closer for the northerners.......

Wherever it is I'll be there. (should I start a list?) ......

My thoughts
Thunder in the tunnels is in Nov as it's an annual event to remind the govt they didn't help one of our british manufacturing companies, prefering to put their trust in banking rather than manufacturing).
As such I feel it's my duty to make a little noise in Whitehall near a certain residence the way to the start.
For me, selfishly as a photographer, I really like the dark starts. There's some great opportunities for photo's and I think it keeps the traffic down a little until around 9am. This year had some awful weather there/back but the main event was dry. Other years have been ok.
Alternatives to the Ace? Well the parking might not be great, but they are setup for getting breakfast out very quick.
What about Brooklands. They've a decent size cafe about the same size as the Ace, not sure it would cope with the rush the same but if we pre-warned them. Plenty of parking.
Some years back the capri club got the cars onto the banking. That would be a great shot, or parked next to concorde?

I'm liking the Top Gear test track personally.
But if it is food/drinks afterwards, then could come to The Bull Hotel or Bell Hotel at/near Gerrards Cross. Just off the A40/M40, plenty of parking & food and easy enough to get to.
Yes good idea.... Lets ask Jezza if we can meet on the top gear test track. Then each of us get a chance to do a lap time. But if it is food/drinks afterwards, then could come to The Bull Hotel or Bell Hotel at/near Gerrards Cross. The stig could take the fastest car around to see what it will do.
