Well I've had as much of the rubbish as I can stand.
The street are being took for fools by the film crew, but then some of the street aren't that bright anyway.
I'm guessing the ones with the blurred faces know the score. wink

They've been less than truthful with the cost for support for the aged, etc, too. Though the council bear the cost, a proportion of such, is paid for by government grants = tax-payers money.

What has me confused is the dog turds, the council don't clean them up around here they just get washed away when it rains. They don't come to clean graffiti, dumped cars or other rubbish either because it almost never happens.

Isn't an abandoned car the DVLA's business anyway?

The chap should not have threatened the car with a crowbar, he should have walked up to the car and started painting graffiti on it.

He should have just slapped one without any warning.....the camera crew would have been over sharpish to tell the 'actor' hoodies to please leave, and as for the abandoned car....strip it and sell the bits on eBay, then weigh in the shell and the money goes back in the pot. It's not rocket science but I'm guessing that would be against the rules and you'd be fined by the council that no longer exist..... scratchchin

Christ I didn't realise we paid so much to
People who make a more expensive life than they can afford (long term)

They didn't mention if the single mum was getting money from her ex partner (s)

Making me angry ...

That fking woman....

"I haven't been as successful as you"...

Well don't expect to live in a semi in a nice street then.
Why the hell should we pay for her to live like that.

"I'm a single parent", well tough st.

She couldn't see further then how much she thought she was entitled to.

Taxis to school ffs.

Id of had to walk out to stop me punching the "independant" woman.

I think this program proves that all most people need from the council is the bins emptied and street lights.
And maybe they could fill in some pot holes if there out and about.

The independant woman was getting £500 (im guessing a month) for extra housing, get a smaller house then.
There, thats £6000 a year ive saved the council.

She had to walk out because she could not justify her position.

The very way they arranged the programme reflects the thinking of those behind it. For example, the residents were seen getting money shoved into their hands which then went into the 'pot' with nothing to suggest that THEY PAID the money in the first place. Also, I rather doubt they paid an equal £52 each as was suggested.

So, just kick that woman off the street and you take out almost all the cost!
She wasn't even grateful for the money either, just take-take-take. I'd be embarrassed to stand up in front of my neighbours and ask them to pay my rent, or for money for a taxi to school.

Not sure about this. It didn't show the woman on housing benefits in a good light. The Afro-Caribbean woman was moaning about the council cutting the shopping service to her father when surely she could help him do the shopping at the weekend herself or use a Tesco delivery service for £5 a time.

If anything, I thought the programme was justifying the needs to cut costs and the difficult decisions that need to be made.

I also thought it was much more illuminating than simply a "cuts are bad" programme.

The benefits woman did initially come across as the sympathy figure, but her comments of "I've never asked for anything" became more laughable as each new benefit came to light, she also couldn't be bothered helping out with the mundane tasks, which must have wound up a lot of those that worked for a living. And if she was worried about her daughter being safe getting to school, she could have walked with her.

Didn't understand the friction between the two women either, seemed one complained that stuff was getting decided without a vote, and she instantly got branded a bigot. Did I miss something?

Yeah, walking past the graffiti doing nothing to help clear it off "Well it's only a bit if paint" or some such crap, as she walked her dog.

Didn't she even consider making sandwiches for her daughter, rather than having her meal money just given to her.

God, she wound me up. mad

I agree, even though I have not seen the programme.
I saw the woman on the news, she certainly didn't do herself any favours, and as said, when it comes down to justifying yourself face to face with somone on the same level it cannot be done.

Must confess I stopped watching it on the grounds that I don't want to have to buy a new telly at the moment and that would have been the unfortunate result.

I always say these programmes are all soke and mirrors and it's all in the edit, but it was so utterly blatant that this was even more stage managed than the norm.

Agree with that benefits woman though, divisions created in that street that might never be healed.

Good on Pickles for complaining to Ofcom. Damn disgrace.
