Saw an article this morning where the residents are complaining about "clever" editing and "manufacturing" situations to make it look a little more "spectacular"
The word they are looking for is "Entertaining"

The vast majority of footage captured from these types of programmes is dull as ditchwater. Editing is designed to pull out the key parts and maintain a decent pace whilst capturing the essence of the theme.

It's actually illegal to use editing to skew the events though there is a fine line between this and editorial influence.

I thought the programme was pretty shameful actually. Despite the claims at the end that it has brought people together, it looked like it had caused some pretty serious rifts too.

And the opportunity to pit the single mother against the legless black man in a kind of X-Factoresque 'benefit-off' must have had the production team positively salivating with glee.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the single mother was studying to be a social worker IIRC, therefore hardly the epitome of a benefit scrounger unless people believe it would be better for her to give up any chance of improving her lot and go and stack shelves instead.

A fine line indeed!

The more I think about this programme the more it pisses me off.

They gave them their streets allocation of 6 weeks council tax back.
During that time, they fly tipped twice and graffitied a lot.

Using this logic, the council have to deal with two lots of fly tipping and one huge amount of graffiti on every street in the borough over a 6 week period.

I'm pretty sure the council would go bust before the street did.

Absolute fatuous crap the more I think of it.

I watched the first episode on iPlayer last night when I discovered I was too early for The Apprentice.

The whole programme was badly skewed - starting with the council emptying the previous week's rubbish on the pavements all the way through to paying benefits to someone's father who didn't even live on the street. The programme-makers set out to create rifts for 'entertainment value' in ways which were simply offensive. Overall a pretty foul programme which proved nothing whatsoever.

they where a right bunch of idiots.
when the rubbish got flytipped they should have burnt it at night thus getting rid of the litter and providing street lighting.
