I see that Tom Cruse is to play Jack Reacher in the movie re-make of 'One Shot'.
He normally pulls it out of the bag but this might be a stretch too far for him. What do you think?

In the books, Reacher is built like the proverbial Brick s t-house. Although he's maybe still a bit young and soft, someone like The Rock would fit the physical profile somewhat better... I was wondering when they'd make Reacher into a film series, and who would play him, just the other day.

Agree, the whole point of the stories is that Reacher is a physically imposing man, anybody that could even suggest a 5'7" guy to play him clearly hasn't read any of the books. I heard a rumour that Liev Schreiber was in the mix for the part and he seems almost perfect for it.

Cruise is just wrong for this. I'll probably just wait until it's on TV to be honest. I like the books for what they are. Good thrillers that keep my attention. Literary masterpieces they may not be, but a good yarn they definitely are.

Never read any of these books, never even heard of him, but am always mightly impressed with Hollywood in matters of thisd ilk. You all forget...Hollywood rules trumphs all!!. Two examples of the top of my head; 5'4 Wolverine played by 6'2 Jackman (Schreiber did a decent Sabretooth so maybe he could bulk up). White Norse God Heimdall and white UberBoss Kingpin both played by Huge black men.(the norse one doesn't even make sense :S )

You're kidding me, right?
I'd always pictured him as being played by Kevin Durand.

Lee chid is 6ft6 and reacher is supposed to be a superior version of what he'd like to be like.... I doubt someone famously small was what he had in mind!

SO long as he keeps creative control? Like Practehtt or Martin. Had to go look on wiki wiki said: Reacher is a giant, standing at 6' 5" tall (1.96m) with a 50-inch chest, and weighing between 220 and 250 pounds (100–115 kg). He has ice-blue eyes and dirty blond hair. He has very little body fat and his muscular physique is completely natural (he reveals in Persuader, he has never been an exercise enthusiast.) He is exceptionally strong but is not a good runner. Reacher is strong enough to break a man's neck with one hand (Bad Luck and Trouble) and kill a villain with a single punch to the head (61 Hours) or chest (Worth Dying For). In a fight against a 7 foot, 400 lb steroid using thug, Reacher was able to lift his opponent into the air and drop him on his head. Sounds a bit like me, I'm no good at running, but I don't have low bodyfat, I also haven't killed a man with a single punch ...hmmm, time for a cuppa and a twix methinks!..nomnomnom...

Lee Child has said that Reachers size in the books is a metaphor for the character being an unstoppable force. I think he might have retrofitted that a little.
