We are still trying to work out how/why Fiona is constantly wearing that denim outfit
We were commenting on that more than the Art Is it all filmed in one day, but then she makes comments like 'it's took 2 weeks' or does she just really like the Denim onesie?
Wasn't surprised the 'experts' didn't change their minds, interesting back story with the dodgy German auctioneer.

Found it odd that they finished with deciding it was most definitely a forgery after the decision rather than suggest the owners try and dig around for more evidence of earlier provenance. Felt a bit sudden considering the evidence they built up.
I would imagine it would be extremely difficult to get the experts to change their mind and admit they were wrong a few years ago, irrespective of what evidence was presented. Found it strange the dismissive idea that a painter would the use the exact same
lanscape/locale for more that one effort.
These are egomaniac narcissists we are on about, where an artist
would paint the same view dozens of times,
I mean Van Gogh tackled the same field and the same bowl of sunflowers many times, and Rembrandt
would record the passing of years via his own ugly mug incessantly.
Not sure sure it was really necessary to fly Philip to Miami and rent him a red convertible
Mustang just in order to see the painting, there's a power of uneeded air miles per episode,
I suppose the show needs a bit of padding.

Using the spoiler tag so as not to give it away:
So, does the 'putting the statue in the gallery whilst she considers her options' imply they are working on the provenance to see if it the 'missing' one from the Oxford JCR before it could be sold? And/or hoping one or more statues or previous owners come out of the woodwork once it has been on TV.
As ever it is an interesting show, even for those of us who know nothing of art, for the mixture of science, paperwork and random instinct in coming up with a decision on whether something is worth a Tenner for Scrap, £100 as a copy/fake/unknown artist piece, or tens of thousands as a 'genuine' work from a famous artist.

It was interesting as ever but I thought the format was showing a few cracks with false jeopardy and a bit of time filling.
The program was a slightly laboured history of the editions, with Philip and Fiona “acting” out their surprise and trepidation with each rehearsed revelation. They can’t show us the labours of the research but I think it would be a stronger format if they just told us the outcomes rather than pretending to Google on the fly.
Essentially the originality depended on a single metallurgical test which they probably knew at the outset would be definitive, but they dragged it out until the last minute.
I loved the guy who set up Pangolin Editions though, must be a savvy guy to have set up the main foundry in the fine art field and have all the staff and gear to support other work, and looking like the Wild Man of Borneo while he did it!

They gave away far too much of the show in the introduction, totally unnecessary.
I'm always surprised how much people pay for cast sculptures; it's not actually made by the artist. No different to a print of a painting.
The original foundry may have been commissioned to make 10 but could have made 12, as the owner and the wife liked them. Those 2 additional statues are effectively worthless even though they are identical to the other 10.

I thought it was interesting because it showed something different to “is there any paint pigment not around at the time” type stuff from all of the paintings.
That rhino sculpture when the foundry doors open was amazing too.
Yeah, I thought it was great the way it was different from their normal approach of pigments and 'is it in the style of?', having the artist's friend's opinion on the signature was a nice touch too. That rhino sculpture when the foundry doors open was amazing too.
It would've been a much simpler process if the artist actually numbered her works though!
As to Truckosaurus' question in the spoiler -
I'm guessing the current owner has to make a reasonable effort to see if the one she has is the same one that the college lost before she can sell it?
