Dance with Dragons is not cheaper though which is a st, its cheaper than RRP but the hardback is not. Still if you factor in postage and the fact it will be delivered at midnight on the 12th I think its worth it!

Briene really winds me up with her holier than thou attitude. I like the characters that show a bit of depth like Tyrion, Jaime and the Hound. If Briene isnt dead Id like to see her break her oath, possibly to save Pod.

The below isnt spoilers but my speculation

I am kind of with you on the ending, Dany and Jon will marry, Jon is going to turn out to be Rhaegar and Lyana's. I think they will all end up worshiping the fire god that Melisandre is the priestess off as the fire will purge the others, plus the dragons will have something to do with getting rid of them as the dragonglass can kill them so easily. Sansa will end up the Hound, Tyrion will find his original wife. Jaime is going to die but in doing so will be redeemed finally. I would like to see Cersei live just to be interesting but losing all her power. Theon is another character I find interesting, he isnt really evil imo. Ayra is turning mildly pyscho imo and will end up doing something interesting.

As to the wolves Im still not sure what the intention is, Nymeria is still alive as I think she is the one that pulls Caityln from the river.

There are so many different threads of specualtion its brilliant. What is going on with Bran and Rickon for example?

Well as i just bought book 1 (not the one with Sean bean on the front, as would look a proper bandwagon memeber!).

So cant read any of this thread until i have read it, but my friend said its a lot like Raymond Feist Magician in style, so looking forward to it, need to finish Vulcan 607 first though smile too many books at Chez Rick 1138

I saw a funny theory on one of the fansites that Eddard had warged himself into Hodor.

Im not sure it was believable but it did allow someone to redo the old memo about walking into Mordor as "One does not simply warg into Hodor"

Theres loads of funny memes about now

How far have you read?

I'm 99.9% certain he's dead as a dead thing, head on a spike in the ruins of winferfell after is invasion failed.

I have read all of book 4, I think he is still alive and captured by the Bolton's, remember what they are famous for? I reckon they would save their special treatment for him

I'll dig out the books - pretty sure he's dead and not captured.

ETA: his wiki entry seems to think he's a captive but presumed dead by his family.

Hopefully he'll get splitted painfully up the middle nasty, pathetic wretch that he is.

I hope she gets killed although I wont be so lucky.

Here is a list of the POV characters from Book 5, not really any spoilers but Ill tag it to be safe

Varamyr Sixskins (prologue POV)
Daenerys Targaryen
Jon Snow
Tyrion Lannister
Davos Seaworth
Bran Stark
Arya Stark
Asha Greyjoy, aka 'The Wayward Bride'
Theon Greyjoy, aka 'Reek'
Victarion Greyjoy
Quentyn Martell, aka 'The Merchant's Man'
Areo Hotah
Barristan Selmy
Melisandre of Asshai
Cersei Lannister
Jaime Lannister
An as-yet unidentified new POV
An as-yet unidentified epilogue POV

Interestinly he has had to cut some of the stuff from book 5 and moved it to book 6. Book 6 and 7 will have less character POVs and the series is at its widest point now. He still plans to finish it in 2 books as well.

Chronologically book 5 is set at the same time as book 4 with some stuff occurring afterwards, so maybe we will find out what happens to Briene (another one I hope is dead!)

I rather liked Arya's arc.

It's good that he's going to keep it to two books - at least then he's got a chance of finishing the series before he pops his clogs smile

I like Arya - proably most true to her Father of all the children.

I would argue with that, in that I think Jon is the closest to the "Stark" way of thinking. Arya is turning into a pyscho obsessed with revenge, revenge isnt one of the Stark virtues as I see it.

Revenge has snuck into her consciousness, but the faceless men training should get that out of her I think . They don't like that kind if thing at all from what I remember.

True, but didnt they blind her anyway?

The young blonde from the Tudors has been cast as Margaery Tyrell, more perfect casting from them!

Just been watching an interesting program about the Amaxon; the salient point being, humans and thier society are essentially a product of thier environment. Thus, the harsher an environment, the less quickly a civilisation would grow culturally and scientifically. So the winter, could indeed 'act as a reset'; this point could have been considered by Martin.

I think having things like Dragons could also act as a reset. How would medieval Englishmen fare against a T-Rex...not very well methinks.biggrin
