Ah sorry, get what you mean now smile

I think the whole 'where are the Stark girls' story line has kind of disappeared in the TV show, I guess they could merge the fake Arya bits into Sansa's storyline somehow. It's getting to the point now where the show is making enough changes that they could pretty much go there on way, which is what they will probably have to do given GRRMs lake of ability to finish writing his books.

I've not watched the first four. But I know some of the major (sending the readers into apoplexy) changes.

The changes are OK to discuss here?

Would rather you held of spoiling any changes the show makes until after it has aired, book spoilers are OK here but not stuff that changes in the show. If you do though, just 'spoiler' tag it and I will try (and probably fail) to resist the urge to read it wink

Yeah. It only popped into my mind because lemming asked, 'So what do you think will be shown on tv this season thats not covered in the books to date.'

I wouldn't spoil with any specifics, I don't know any. But I know the general area of what places they are visiting.

I'll just lay off.

Hopefully this is the right thread to post. I have enjoyed the books and to a lesser degree the TV series(great tv just not as good as the books IMO) I acknowledge that its George RR Martins baby and he can do what he wants with it but in the nicest un fanboy like way I wish the books where finished before they started adapting it for TV. Like all adaptions changes have to be made and bits cut out but I wonder how much “needing the right ending for tv” will affect the way the direction the books take. Is it like having two masters I wonder?

IIRC they are ending the show like the books, with the relative end game being the same. I think I read somewhere that GRR asked the show producers a question who Jon Snow's mum is, R+L=J etc(?) on how it ends and they got it right, hence giving them the rights to film it. Someone may be along to correct me though.

I've just read what you put again and maybe you mean will GRR Martin change the books so he still has some surprises left? I wouldn't be surprised to be honest.

If he has it all mapped out and has from the beginning then great. Reading it sometimes felt like he'd written himself into a corner but that maybe because I'm used to so many tidy stories with everything tied up neatly at the end. This feels more like history, a more organic, sometimes unsatisfactory ending. I love the fact that no one is safe, it was both a shock and quite refreshing when various key characters died but I was just wondering if the success of the TV show will influence how he writes the ending.

GRR has mapped out the whole arc and the ending, he did that in the 90s. Though he has changed the details as he has gone one, and added more stuff...in fact I just read that he has added more. I think I have read that everything that happened up to the end of A Storm of Swords was meant to be the first book, the story grew in the telling.

At first D&D were given only so much of the plot, which is a bit stupid in hindsight, it meant that perhaps certain things haven't been set up as well as they could have been. But at the start of last year D&D and GRR had another sit down and they were given the whole thing, the large arc and ending. That'll be the same, whether it;s ice wins, fire wins, whatever. But of course D&D don't like living in Belfast for 10 months of the year. hehe and they wanna get done...even though I've just read that HBO might push the series overall beyond the ASOFAI story.
I've started watching Emergency Awesome again, he's pretty clued up.

The story as is on screen is different but the same, I don't mind, we have the books we have the show. I like it. I do like though how the show explicitly states stuff that can only be picked up from the books by multiple readings. biggrin

Loving how the show is changing things, it adds to the fun of figuring out how they are going to get the story lines back to where the book is.

So it looks like Sansa is now on the 'fake Ayra' storyline, does this mean we will see Theon rescuing her ?

Also, does anyone else think it is going to be Jon Snows 'squire' who will be stabbing him in the back - they certainly seem to be setting it up that way and I can't remember who it was in the book, wasn't it one of his friends ?

Good to see Slynt finally getting his comeuppance, I'd forgotten all about that scene so it was good to see. In fact, despite the changes, Season 5 episode 3 had lots of scenese that were also very true to the books. Excellent stuff smile

I think it was the guy he chose to be his steward in the book too, that possibly was the 'third' blade. He was just already a NW fella.

Yeah, Janos getting his, was most excellent. biggrin

Love the history they are bringing into it.

Brienne to take mances place, ie helping her escape as their will be a civil unrest in moat catlin as the slaves keep.saying the north remembers.

Slso, will it be the end for bronn considering the plots foiled and most are killed bar darkstar (?) who will be jamie riding off?

Yeah, Brienne will try and 'help' Sansa I predict, but the Stannis thing is her prime directive. Somebody is not gonna walk out of that room. They are both fairly inflexible.

People on Westeros.org are saying Bronn will die, but I hope not. He is the one character that has bloomed out of nothing into something totally cool in the show. I'd like him to be around till the end.

His story ended ages ago in the books but they kept him going as a replacement to Il Payne. Considering Jamie is meant to be going up North as a peace maker in the books, i doubt we will see that story line.

I reckon Bri/Stannis will have a get together should Dany ever make it back.

I wonder if Jon getting stabbed will be made to look like a failed assassination attempt
