Annatar was Sauron. When he still took fair form and deceived others to do his will. Numenorean era.

some geek kids told me while i was pushing them in a puddle and taking their dinner money then doing dead big skids on my bike to impress girls.
Ahh, I recall. He had many names, too many to list. I read all aboot this stuff decades ago. Had a few large compendiums of Tolkien's world.
I was one of hose geeks, bought all the books and the annual calendars.biggrin
Forgotten a lot of it now, but still love the books.

I was so happy when Tom wasn't in the movie. By far the most dreary bit of the book.

I was disappointed with that, but then as it turned out I was disappointed with the films so in the end it didn't matter.biggrin
Tom Baker would have been good as Tom Bombadil.

I heard a rumour a while ago that Baksi was gone finish his off.
The best onebiggrin

I remember watching that when I was younger. The Orcs coming at the screen in semi live action, semi colored in, was superb. They never did the third, if I remember. Their gollum was a lot like the gollum in the film, voice and all.

Yeh that Gollum was also pretty good. PJ lied aboot have seen Bakshi's version, and then backtracked and admitted it had inspired/influenced him. Pissed Bakshi off a little.biggrin
John Hurt as the voice of Aragorn hasn't been bettered imo.
It was on last week on sci-fi.

i own the bakshi one. i teach animation so i sometimes use it as an example of flawed/overused techniques. the painting over live action film that he used is called rotoscoping. look at bakshi's wizards for a similar example.

I think most people have seen the animated version and as akid I really liked it and wondered why there was never a Hobbit film / animation.

I've recently got the other half into LOTR shes currently reading Fellowship after seeing teh blue ray of all three films AND the extended cuts of all three! (I've told her that we need to watch them again twice with director / writer and cast commentary!)

and she's up for it! result! give it a few months or so though I think...

I did recall clearly sat in the cinema watching fellowship and thinking "this is the book on film".

So is Christopher Lee back as Saruman? It will be quite an acting job to portray him as he was before Sauron corrupted him through the Palantir. There must be hints of his weakness, despite his absolute authority as leader of the White Council.

Begins with an 'E'? Pretty sure I know this one...using willpower not to wiki it.

In return, how old was Aragorn when he voluntarily gave up his life?

How did you work it out...I am fairly sure that depending on how you work it out you get 190/189 or 210.biggrin
Just looked at wiki, never knew Tolkien said he was at least 6'6. I knew he was meant to be tall though, I had estimated 6'4....and they get that runt to play himbiggrin
Some more figures, he is 88 when we meet him and one year younger than Denethorbiggrin

still can't remember his mum...whom was called mum...what is the first letter?

Where have you guys been hiding? Proper Tolkien geeks! hehe

Anyway back on topic of the new Hobbit film: I hope Peter Jackson does an as good job as with the Lord of the Rings; the movie trilogy brought the books to life for me (though flawed in some inescapable ways when compared with the books) and got me hooked on his writings.

The Hobbit will be a success. I'm just interested as to how deep the movies will go, as there is little limit when it comes to Middle-Earth smile In fact, I think I'm going to pick the book up again after many years. read
