Excellent film. Only negative comment here is the cgi is very obvious in some places.
Tricky to find a dragon these days, trickier to find one that can act.

biggrin
Ha, I didn't actually mean that bit, it was more the barrel bit.

I loved it 90%. Yes there are improbable occurrences/escapes (even allowing for the fact it's Middle Earth) but sympathetic characters, stunning cinematography help you immerse yourself in a fully realised world.

I bet Lucas must be kicking himself - THIS is what SW:1, 2 & 3 should have been like

you overestimate Lucas's self-awareness!

You think this thread is miserable, you should go look at one for a movie that people actually dont like. Try the Prometheus thread biggrin

I have to wait till next weekend to watch this. Im quite excited. I have read the books of course but never actually liked them much. The LOTR books are boring and the Hobbit was a bit too childish for me when I was reading it. I certainly wouldnt call myself a fan. I enjoyed the LOTR movies a lot though but didnt really enjoy the first Hobbit that much.

lol at that!!! I've got to admit I absolutely LOVED the visuals for Prometheus, it looked stunning in places - shame that they forgot about the story and characters frown

Hollywood does that a lot...erm, most of the time in fact...perhaps all the time?
When was the last time a film which was effects heavy was released and the story was great?

let's put it this way - I loved Pacific Rim, it was a stupid 'fast food' movie but made no pretence of being anything else but

Life of Pi maybe or Gravity. Both effects heavy but reasonable stories?

There are some old curmudgeons knocking about hehe

Life of Pi was wonderful, Gravity was visually stunning even though the showing had French and Arabic subtitles, but the story was pretty pants.

Gravity was like Life of Pi for thick people.

It was good but I wouldn't call it The Hobbit from what I remember of the book. Some of it was sublime though. I loved the bit with the barrels and the voice of Smaug was so good.

But seriously, a female elf? I'm annoyed on behalf of Halb!

One of the worst moments in the film for me. I enjoyed it but had to pretend it wasn't the Hobbit.
