No idea, but the clip being shown on the TV advert is interesting.

Apparently the alternate beg and end are only on the blu-ray! Funny though that they said constantly that there would be no more footage added lol

Unsurprising.

When you've already acheived perfection, why mess with it?

But they are only deleted scenes aren't they? You can't actually watch the film with the alternate beginning and end?

Finally watched this last night and I have to admit to being....disappointed. As others have said the premise is very promising

Who are we?
Where do we come from?
Why are we here?
Who\what is a space jockey?
Will Ridley be able to rekindle the Alien magic?

So you have the standard setup, scientists discover ancient artifacts which point to the origins for mankind being beyond earth, cue a rich eccentric bank rolling a trip to the stars to get some answers and off we go. All standard Sci-Fi fare until now, pretty cliched but the initial 15 minute setup is handled pretty well, it's Ridley Scott so anticipation is set pretty high for what is to follow.

Unfortunately what follows is probably one of the biggest movie disappointments since The Phantom Menace was hoisted on us. It never delivers and rapidly deteriorates into a film with more plot holes, leaps of faith and 1D characters than you can shake a large stick at and the last half an hour gets even worse, devolving into the worst kind of modern slasher\horror.

OK you could argue that the original Alien was also just a slasher horror set in space but the difference in quality is like comparing Psycho with Scream 3, the original Alien is taut, full of tension, superb characters, acting and dialogue and Prometheus err...isn't.

All the exciting questions asked at the beginning of this film are either ignored completely or answered in such a stupid and irrelevant way that they might as well not have bothered.

I'd expect a film of this quality from a hack like Paul W. S Anderson (he of AvP fame) not a master like Ridley Scott!

Shame on you Ridley, you've pandered to the lowest common idiot by making this film and insulted my intelligence while doing it.

RIP Aliens I reckon, 2 very good films followed by about half a dozen crap ones, including AvP and this and I think it's time to put this franchise to bed as it seems no-one not even the original director can do it justice anymore.

Exactly what I thought while watching it. It has his "style" all over it, and copies some fairly major elements of AVP (ancient alien visitations, team of fkwits on an expedition, Weyland corp head honcho seeking something, bad guy alien lying in wait in stasis, etc.).

Agree with everything other than I thought Alien 3 and AvP were better movies than Prometheus.

The alternative Fifield attack scene is much better, I can't understand why they went with the zombie version.

Don't really remember it that well TBH, but wouldn't be surprised.

It's the worst Alien film by far IMHO, but for the most part it's enjoyable nonsense.

Prometheus is just toilet.

Lol too true, what a way to p*ss away a stunning first installment. To be honest though a lot of on screen sci-fi suffers from this problem. They come up with a brilliant idea\concept but then don't know how to conclude it properly. I wonder if they are just worried that they'll loose a huge number of their target audience if they make it too cerebral so go for the easy\dumbed down ending instead.

That confirms my recollection of it also. I've got the BR box set and its the only one I haven't bothered to re-watch.

By the way, that link left me with pop-unders with NSFW images and pages requiring an "OK" click of a dialog box to dismiss them - the kind of thing that smells of malware to me.
