Prometheus - Ridley Scott's 'Alien Prequel' (or not)...

I'm cautiously looking forward to this, the way I see it - worse case and it's another turd then Neill Blomkamp's go at it is due in 2018. If that's also a turd I'm prepared to say that it's one of those times when, even when you think you've got the best ingredients in the world, no one can knock a decent omelette out of it and we call it a day.
To be fair, apart from the original Alien and Aliens, nothing made since has got anywhere close to getting this universe right in the same way as the first two. It's almost cursed now it seems.Guvernator said:

That snake part is terrible, almost as bad as the main protagonist who becomes a clinically depressed alcoholic six hours in because the first site they've found only has dead aliens inside.
Very poor (IMHO) film.
Looks at 127 page thread (and counting) which is basically 99% slating the film.Very poor (IMHO) film.
Yeah you could be right.

I think it does improve on a second or third viewing, especially the Director's Cut. It's certainly flawed, and as with a lot of sequels ultimately unnecessary, but at least Scott had a vision and it's not just a cheap cash grab
If that vision was to make an illogical, poorly scripted, badly thought out mess then he got it spot on IMO. Athlon said:
That new poster is better that the whole of the last film!
You probably forget how good the pre-release hype was, how well received the trailers were and how many people were looking forward to it. I enjoyed the film more than most and prefer it to 3 and 4.The new poster promises much!

You remember the totally unrealistic would never happen in real life scene in Prometheus where they ran away from a toppling spaceship in the direction it was falling?
Actually it's quite likely that's what would happen given a. the size of the ship, b. the surface the humans were trying to run on, and c. people very often run in straight lines when they're scared - adrenaline causes tunnel vision, and the inability to think clearly and decisively Rich_W said:

Looks good but so did the Prometheus trailer. So I believe that Ridley Scott, from that trailer, can make a proper scary movie. Shocks, spills, thrills, blood and nastiness.
But to make it blood curdling we will need to care about the characters. Want them to live, like the survivors. A trailer can't tell you that. And what are they doing? Why are they there? How will this move the tale on...
And, most importantly, how did the big guy end up in the chair with a fken great hole in his chest?
Since this is a prequel we are supposed to suspend our disbelief about how smart people would shove their faces near a strange egg-like feature that's top is peeling open like a Flycatcher on speed. Ridley is going to need to help me with that one...
Continuity is important. Aliens worked partly because of Alien. You knew stuff. But they found new stuff to tell you. What new stuff will I find out?
I'll see it, alright, and I hopefully skeptical about it.
