croyde said: When those two scientists said that they were going back to the ship, we stay with what's happening in the temple and the ship but when the four remaining have to leave in a hurry because of the storm, they head out and only the 2 quads are there. Fine as there are only 4 of them and I presumed the other 2 had taken the truck. It then cuts to a wide shot with the quads and the truck heading to the ship. Why is the truck suddenly there and who is driving it? plus we then find out that the two blokes did not return to the ship as they are lost in the temple.
That bit really jarred with me and looked like a major goof! Happy to be proved wrong tho! yeah you have that wrong but to be fair its not explained very well.
if you remember the dick and the other none scientist are sat in the back and so are the other dick scientist and the lady hero.
that means there is a driver that does not go in. hes the one who takes off early without them. they mention it when they come out "they've gone alreagy" you would think they would make a bit of a fuss about it wouldnt you. oh and a storm that will blow over a tracked vehicle will do more than make it a bit difficult for 3 'people'croyde said: Don't forget that Alien is set in a time when long distance space travel is normal and people are a bit au fait about xenomorphs but Prometheus is set in the not too distant future when there has been no contact with outer worldly species and FTL travel is in it's infancy.
The crew were just not impressed enough.
Oh! and that C-section scene. Scared the crap out of me but did not seem to really bother the lady that had gestated some squid like thing only 24 hours after shagging her mate.
She stumbles into Weyland's cabin and does not say "FEKIN' 'ELL!!!! I HAVE JUST GIVING BIRTH TO A FRIGGIN' SQUID AND I DID IT ALL ON MY FEKIN' OWN!!!!!" i agree with you about all that though there are also some other holes i noticed tonight. for instance the droid takes her cross because it might be contaminated and puts it in a sealed jar. he then drugs her and orders her put into hypersleep. he does not expect to see her again so why is her cross in his pocket convieniently at th eend then eh?

At what point between crawling into the lifepod with 30 secs of air remaining (which is in itself stupid as air consumption is dependent on exertion) and her running out again did she recharge her oxygen?

however earlier in the film you see them charging their suits through a tube so who knows [/spiler]
was just reading some opinions on imdb and found this post thought it was quite good.
[spoiler] MY PLAN FOR IMMORTALITY - BY WEYLAND
- Spend $trillion on a trip to an unknown moon, on a hunch from a naive hippy couple who believe things because they choose to - Recruit a bunch of absolutely stupid tools from various disciplines who think and act irrationally - Get some crew members with adolescent angst on board (incl. an android and my own daughter) - Pretend to be dead to the crew, but reveal myself later (problem - won't they think I'm a dousche? Cross that bridge when I get to it) - Let the "scientists" fumble about a bit first and see what they rustle up - Even if lots of people die, become infected and raped by aliens, don't worry, keep believing that "they created human life, so they must be able to save us too" (Wait - if that's the case, what about asking a few milfs to save my life? They've created human life too... does what I said even make any sense? Have I taken my pills? Ah whatever, the $1t trip to a moon will be fun) - Anyway - get to the Alien chamber whatever the risk, and ask an android to try and ask an alien creature for some "answers" so that I might cure the aging problem somehow.
Note to self - I get the feeling I'm overlooking something, or that my plan might not be very water tight. I know, I'll tattoo "this is a good idea" on my chest like I did in that other movie I was trying to believe something that wasn't true.
and teh first reply
He didn't seem very phased by the appearance of a near naked woman, covered in blood, with a giant stapled up scar across her stomach.
"where have you been?" "I had to remove a creature from my stomach, but it's nothing much, so I don't bother anyone about it. I'm sure it won't effect your decision to go and meet the nice friendly alien man"
I also love that he puts his faith in a woman who puts her faith in a god - one that has no evidence or support for it...talk about hopeful.

Right here are some of the things rolling round my head.
1. Why was there a picture of the alien we know on the wall? 2. Why was the Engineers so pissed off, you don't have any subtitles, was it something david said? 3. Why did david give the "goo" to the other bloke in his drink? What was the real purpose as it is revealed later he is there to fix the old man? 4. Why did the Engineers leave clues on earth if they didn't want to be found? 5. Why did Miss Therone get rolled on? she escaped the main ship to have such a crap death!!! does that mean the weylands are all dead?
Nice to see some acid blood though!!
Just watching Alien in the background just notice the bloke who gets faced hugged falls over on his back, so when he is rescued why did none of the other eggs hatch and get the rescuers?

judas said: stuff Weyland Smithers? What follows could be major spoilers-
I've just come back from seeing it, There were some odd bits, the rolling ship, and people running directly away from it, the Addams family squid monster in a cupboard, and the complete lack of anything scientific (i.e find a relic head, plug it into a mains and blow it up...)
But - what I've got so far- Charlize was a robot, they dropped a few hints, at the start Weyland saying David was like a son, her being asked and not denying it, and the counter to that was that she had her own life support module.. She can't be a robot, can she? Well, since they never bothered to install DVD 2 in the medicomp, it makes it clear the chamber was for Weyland. Little things like that aren't added for fun. The bit about her and the captain thinking about sex was partly a reference to a missing bit from "Alien" where Lambert and Ripley both discuss that they never had sex with robot Ashe, the flip side being that they shag about a bit in space for a hobby.
The weapon is some sort of mutagen, at the start, we see a space jockey seeding what I assume is earth by drinking some DNA unravelling chemical while his mates fly off.
The worms in the canister chamber get mutated into the first smaller white worms. It seems that although the "aliens" we know didn't appear, it is most likely the same mutagenic fast growing affliction. Maybe the aliens are just the zombiefied remains of a viral strike.
I don't know what Shaw's character did for air, she got back to the lifeboat bit with 30 secs to spare. I guess they would say that it was some sort of air packs she was collecting as soon as she got through the door, but that wouldn't be the first thing you'd think of as you just got to an air filled safety chamber.
Some of the sub plots weren't too explained either. Why Shaw assumed the Jockeys had changed their mind on the way to Earth, why they would destroy it. I know David said "sometimes to make life, you need to destroy it" but that doesn't make any sense. Maybe he could read the start charts and languages better.
The captain assumed it was some sort of bio weapons dump kept safely away from everywhere.
Anyway, it filled in a few gaps, opened up quite a few more questions, but overall I thought it was OK.
I'm 50/50 whether they overdid the Alien references in dialogue, but I guess that was to make sure most people spotted something (ie, the "last surviving member" monologue, the "looks like they've exploded from the inside" line when they find some bodies, and countless other smaller references in most cases being David vs. Ashe vs. Bishop etc.)

But in answer to the 2nd question, evidently not as this was a prequel and we meet people by that name again in the future.

1) why did they take the archaeologist who found a cave painting? she was no expert on alien culture she just found a picture and 'chose to beive' with no rationality whatsoever. she added nothing to teh expedition
weyland would have said oh yeah great theory thanks ill go check it out with all these other implausible so called scientists.
after all he was expecting to find live aliens there and his android was the plan all along.
2)why did the archaeologist become an expert at medical devises and even problem solving medical devises when it wouldnt do what she wanted?
lets try an experiment shall we. we will drop the time team off at a hospital and ask them to do an MRI and see how they get on.

I agree. There were some really gaping plot holes and things that made you go "huh?". I think they tried to cram way too much in plot-wise to the extent that it was disjointed and unresolved. I also think it lacked cohesion. Many scenes just seemed like barely connected vignettes. The whole sub-plot of infecting Holloway and having him impregnate Shaw and then her doing a DIY C-section just seemed unnecessary. As did zombie biology guy. I just think the film didn't know what it wanted to be. Didn't know if it wanted to be an origin story, an intrigue / mystery / discovery story, Alien, Aliens, or what. It was like a picture made from the pieces of several jigsaws and hammered into place.
Also, I didn't feel any emotional investment in the characters so I didn't really care what happened to them. Compare that to Alien and Aliens where there was enough character development for you to get to know them enough to feel a sense of loss when they died. Even Gorman.
Having said all that, I did still enjoy it and I'm glad I went. I just think it's a seriously flawed film.

I was aware of the mixed reviews before i saw it last night, so i just relaxed my mind and took it or what it was... as a Saturday night popcorn film, it ticked all the boxes or me, 8/10.

Given that there's not been a single good review and someone has now called it a 'popcorn' film means for me that it's typically disappointing like almost everything from Hollywood these days and I'll avoid (can't think of a single good sci-fi film that's come out in the last decade). I hope Scott changes his mind and doesn't bother making Bladerunner 2.

LOL, I'm not going to pay £30 to watch a film that everyone dislikes, I have confidence in them, they took the hit for the team and for this I thank them.
