im sure im about to get buried here

but why does know one in this future know about these aliens ?

I mean they can fly to other planets but don't document the horrors ?

with you tube and the internet ;-) this horrific alien and what they do must travel the news like wildfire ?
With the first 3 films it would be pretty easy to cover up, especially as none of the survivors made it back to Earth

The problem is the mystery of the monster and its origins has been blown wide open, Alien kicked it off with the magnificent derelict ship and huge alien pilot that was unlike anything ever scene in a movie before, and the perfectly terrifying creature and its lifecycle, Aliens took the genre in a different direction as the creatures became less scary in numbers, but ramped up the thrill ride - two great films for very different reasons.

We are all now so familiar with the creature it isn't as scary anymore, Ridley knew this when he made Prometheus but this was a step in the wrong direction as that derelict ship and pilot was the perfect mystery, another alien race that was so beyond our understanding and imagination that humans would struggle to comprehend, I don't think Dan O bannon knew what the hell it was when he wrote Alien,

It should have stayed a dark sinister mystery, attempts to explain it have diluted the horror and we ended up with albino blokes in loincloths and mysterious potions.

Its getting a bit confusing isn't it? I liked the intro of this master race in Prometheus and wanted to see what the next chapter was but it never happened.

I did as well. Probably go in a more interesting direction than the aliens... .

We probably haven't seen the Jockeys out and about because of the massive enquiry that's going on over why so many of the horseshoe ships crash.

Is that 3 now? Maybe it's the same team the Empire commissioned.

The trailer looks like a good romp but the same Prometheus silliness seems to be there. Wandering around an alien world without protection (has no-one seen war of the worlds?), getting a close up of a nasty looking egg, without protection (again). Why would the Alien come out of his back? easier via the stomach.

The one in Alien was presumably overrun by Xenomorphs - at least we know that's what killed the pilot and presumably lead to it crashing.

The ship in Prometheus crashed due to a mid air collision between it and the Prometheus.

The one in Covenant is the second ship that was present in the hangar on LV223 and either landed or crash landed on the planet seen in Covenant after Shaw and David stole it. If it did crash land - it's probably because Shaw and David couldn't pilot it properly.

I dont think there is anything inherent in the engineers ships that cause them to crash - each crash has a specific set of circumstances surrounding it.

I don't think he is hosting an alien embryo, as you say it makes no sense for a parasitic creature to emerge in this direction. I suspect he is mutating and what we are seeing is his dorsal spines emerging. Remember this guy was "infected" by the spore pod he trod on, it is mutating him hence his white appearance in line with the Neomorph skin colour.

Just my 2p anyway..

Slightly underwhelmed with the latest trailer.

The Aliens always look best (IMHO) when it's dark and they're blending in with the scenery, that thing they do when they're suddenly visible because they move is still shocking to me.

It's a bit like the Star Wars Prequels, in the originals they were massively handicapped by the technology of the day. Things had to be kept dark and moody to hide the joins / wires / the human in the suit but that handicap forced them to be creative, slow less, create more with music and suspense. Modern technology allows them to show the Alien in day light headbutted the windscreen in perfect HD so they do, sod the suspense – he’s the monster you want to see in all it’s glory.
Still it’s only a trailer, they always give away a bit too much – hopefully the film will be dark and scary and not just a 2 hour shoot ‘em up – even in Aliens with all the Space Marines and guns, there’s not that much fighting going on.

I'm going to try and avoid any more trailers. The Prometheus ones were fantastic but gave too much away.

This is true, aside from the Queen you barely see them for more than a few seconds in the first two films. A few dots and beeps on a motion tracker are far more scary than an expensive long shot of a creature moving towards you. Although on the other hand we all know what the Aliens look like now, so you'd be trying to hide something the audience already knows is there.

Thing with the orignals are that they were mostly guys in suits and were fairly slow/using shadows to be more scary.

CGI just makes them the monsters in any other movie.

I reckon this will be panned upon release honestly. It looks fairly average and textbook to me.

If you cant tell I was hugely burnt with Prometheus hehe

Sad if true.

I don't know why it had to wait. If it was really to be a sequel to Aliens - then the Prometheus story arc set so far in the past should have absolutely no bearing upon it.

I suspect this is Hollywood BS politics at work.

Simple, Alien 5 had some hope of being any good. Alien Covenant is practically guaranteed to be a glossy steaming turd.

Blomkamp's last few films have been critically panned though, so maybe it's for the best
