Just seen the season finale yet again a superb series.

But FX HD are not showing the next series until spring..... Such a long wait why do Americans get it so much sooner??

Anyway luckily seen than Walking dead season 2 is coming very soon to FX HD so that will help pass some of the time.

Dexter season 5 aired in the USA towards the end of 2010, so the yanks have been waiting for the next season for a while too. They're shooting themselves in the foot though by not airing it in the UK sooner after the US release. I watched it all online as it came out rather than waiting for FX to show it.

But as you said, great season finale smile

I concur (on both points). The actor's a bit annoying (although no one does SMUG like that bloke in the Mentalist...), but the whole idea makes me feel uncomfortable.

It's the same with the development of the Hannibal Lechter character - These people are serial killers who get a kick out of killing, but we're supposed to think it's ok because they only kill people worse than them... (although in both cases it's a VERY moot point...)

Odd and rather distasteful I find...

I got into this late into season 3, then went back and watched the others and completely love it.
I have recently bought the book to read when I go on holiday next week so hopefully no real spoilers.
Even though I can't stand Julia Styles I still thought she was good in it!

Looking forward to S6 without a doubt.

they're works of fiction, not documentaries. The above could be applied to the soprano's as well

Season 3 was poor, and Season 5 had a terrible ending which seemed totally out of character for many of them.

But Season 4 was brilliant, thanks mainly to an outstanding performance by Lithgow. I'm hoping they can rekindle the magic for Season 6, but I'm not sure how far they can take the show now without it getting tired?

Doesn't mean I have to like it, does it? In some ways it's worse, it's manipulative... The writer WANTS you to feel this way.

I never watched the Sopranos regularly either actually (although that had more to do with it having been running for about 100 episodes before I was aware of it biggrin)

Tony Soprano was an anti-hero, though, like Vic Mackie in The Shield (kind of...), where you rooted for them in spite of them being unsavoury characters.

Dexter (and Lecter later on) is almost presented as an avenging Angel...

Anyway, fiction or not, I was just explaining why I've never found the show very appealing (I watched about half the first series, lost track, and some of the second before tiring of it).

If other people enjoy it, fine - It's a free world biggrin

anti-hero? Tony straight up murdered his cousins, Ralphie and Christopher.

S4 was hard to top, but I did enjoy S5 for the most part.

The good thing is you don't need to have watched the previous series to just PCM it up at any series although there is a story line flowing through it.

I watched all 5 seasons back to back recently and thought seasons 1 and 2 were best.

It was kind of dragging on by season 5. Hvaing that fking kid killed it big time. I was hoping Dexter might do away with the kid but that would probably make the show too extreme biggrin

I thought season 5 ended badly, like it wasn't properly explained and every character who was suspicious just had a 'ah well who cares?' attitude in the last half of the finale for no apparent reason. But prior to that the reason was alright.

Season 6 from the trailers looks like Dexter has a religious calling and questions whether he is actually a puppet of higher order. Not sure I'll enjoy that as much, but at least its a different story. Probably wind some people up anyway.

The books divert from the tv show fairly quickly, without spoiling anything, season 6 cannot really be based on the books (unless the go wayy far back)

I got the impression all through 5 that it was going to be the end and the story played out as such, but halfway through they got the greenlight for a 6th season and conveniently turned it all around.

Each to their own, but I thought S5 was the worst Dexter season yet.

It had its moments, but the last two episodes are in my opinion two of the worst Dexter episodes ever, and the season as a whole just wasn't really going anywhere.

Perhaps Showtime thought the same because the showrunner was replaced after the season and I hope that next season will have more intelligence and coherance.

Yep

Lost was airing here a couple of says after America. You can't get away with such a long gap for a popular TV show.
