The only awkward moment for me was in car chase scene - how could he manage to shift gears going backwards? You can clearly hear him shifting twice in the Mustang. Maybe 300bhp can explain this miracle smile
Also, when he ran in to the side of the limo punting it on to the beach, how come the front of his car was still ok with the lights working?

I thought that. He had, only moments before, hit the back of the limo pretty hard yet in the next scene the front of the car appeared OK.

Surely the most unrealistic thing was the 300C being all over the Mustang GT with a a supposed "driving god" at the wheel!

Yep, very true.

I had read somewhere that this was supposed to be a remake/homage to Bullitt so thought that chase would a) be longer and b) the baddies would be in a Charger which would finally hit a petrol station.

IMDB Says said:
Incorrectly regarded as goofs: When Driver and Blanche are being chased by the Chrysler, the car can be heard up-shifting 3 times while driving backwards. In reality the Ford Mustang, like most cars, only has one reverse gear. There are stunt cars, such as those seen in Lights, Motors, Action! at Disney World Florida, that have reverse gears to reach high speeds whilst going backwards. Since the Driver is something of a mechanic prodigy and he works at a garage, he would probably have been able to modify the Mustang accordingly.

It's just an exciting audio dub. This is not a car film, no matter what it says on the tin.

Just got back.

Wife loved it despite covering her eyes a couple of times.

I thought - very 80's script for the titles, it reminded me of Pretty in Pink. Needless to say the rest of the film didn't!

Car sections actually quite poor, especially the Mustang/300C section. Also that ropey old Nascar sounded like it had a V10 in it for certain external shots...

Elevator stamping - gruesome.

Ending, nicely ambiguous.

Overall Gosling very good as a chap who is just not quite right in some way and finds himself drawn in to the situation.

My thoughts exactly. Given the hype about this movie, is was a little dissapointed to be honest.

Why should it be a car movie to be good?

It doesnt and I wasnt bothered by the fact it didnt heavily feature cars, but..

If you watch the trailer (which pretty much gives away the whoe story in sequenc, BTW)

They certainly create the impression its a high octane action film featuring many cars and car action.

I can see why people might be a bit disappointed.

Some people just can't watch anything that requires some thought or isn't constant action.

If it was all action there'd be limited tension.

I was basing my expectations on a) the fact it was called "Drive", which to me, sounds like a car movie, and b) the 1st post comparing the film to Sexy Beast and Heat, and I do not think this was a patch on either IMHO

Amazing movie, and superb acting. I'm in a similar position to an earlier poster, wife being due any day now. She did enjoy it though, except for the gruesome scenes, and no sign of a baby yet smile

Best film I've seen since Hanna, soundtrack is excellent too!

I'm in the minority but I thought it was terrible, I didn't like the bits where Gosling was staring silently into space, the bits that wanted to be in Heat with Moby's tune playing over again and again and again, the female lead was so forgettable I can't remember who it was but she seemed to echo Goslings bland/non existent performance but she managed to take doing nothing to a new level.

Come to think of it, I didn't like any of it.

Terrible?

No matter how much you didn't like it surely you can appreciate why people would do and that it clearly isn't a "terrible movie".

Go watch Resident Evil 4 Afterlife...that's terrible!

Its a movie I'd avoid seeing again, even if that meant sitting in the rain on a park bench.
Resident evil anything wouldn't even dream of bothering to look at it.

So you would avoid seeing this film but are happy to go into your garage and see an X6?! Each to their own! hehe

I have to agree here. I watched this last night....good god, the cinematic equivalent of watching paint dry. It looked nice and all that but it was so unbelievably slow paced and all the 'action' seemed to have been fitted in to allow the pregnant pauses to have some validity...it was just for me, horribly disjointed..
