Considering it was originally filmed in SD and in 4:3 format, with some of the shots very carefully framed specifically for that format then what have they had to do to get it to BR and presumably wide screen.

Nah will give it a miss, original is good enough for me and doesn't really need this imo, but then we don't have a screen the size of a small bungalow.

Different styles, but love 'em both.

Raylan Givens and McNulty...both utter headaches for their respective bosses. laugh

David Simon writes about it (at some length) here: http://davidsimon.com/the-wire-hd-with-videos/

Some scenes are better with it, some worse - and of those, many have been carefully handled to make them less intrusive. It sounds like a pretty sympathetic remaster really.

Thanks for that link, sounds like they really had to work at it, and some things better, some not.

Bob Colesberry referred in that piece, played Ray Cole, and I guess they really had a wake for him when in the film Ray Cole died in the gym.

I just got a new HBO package so I can see what all the Game of Thrones fuss is about and it has all episodes of The Wire "remastered", my productivity is about to take a huge dip.

Indeed.
HBO have maybe half a dozen solid gold shows on their books.

Top end HBO shows...very good. Layered.

Just watched the Wire S5E8, a memorable ep for anyone who has watched the whole thing and I noticed two new things in a pivotal scene, on my third viewing.
Stuff like this is timeless.
