One of my favourite moments was the 'fk' kitchen scene.

Favourite moment.... Bubbles being allowed up the cellar steps for a meal at the very end.

Bubbles was portrayed brilliantly and addicts say he acted how they would have done. To see him regress so many times but eventually make it with his family was a nice moment

That was a wonderful moment, not ashamed to say I cried like a baby when I saw it.

I mentioned it on Twitter a few years ago and received a lovely message from the man himself Andre Royo.

Any excuse to watch the closing montage from Season 5, which of course includes Bubbles’ moment.

TV is split into two eras. Before The Wire, and after it. Before, there was no show out there that really showed off what the TV show medium could do. TV shows had always been just inferior movies, stretched out with filler content to provide passable entertainment over a large span of time. After The Wire, TV has enjoyed a golden age featuring stories far more complex and deep than could be possible in movies. The Wire is what pushed TV to occupy that middle ground in depth between movies and novels that it always had the potential to. But I feel that I am taking away from the show by just describing it as a pioneer, because it is far more than that. The Wire is not just a first, a groundbreaker, it remains to this day the single greatest viewing experience that television has to offer. At first it's confusing, it feels slow, but after you start figuring out what's going you realize how clean it is, and how not a moment is wasted. Now when i rewatch The Wire, every moment is exciting, and hilarious. I laugh out loud many times because I am so invested, so in love with so many of the characters, that just seeing them bounce off each other is exhilarating. The dialogue is not just novel-quality, it often surpasses novel quality. Each season is a novel, with each episode being a chapter. The Wire has taught me so many lessons, taught me so much about life, politics, and human nature, and kept me smiling, laughing, and thoroughly entertained the whole time. What more can I say? I count down the years until I start forgetting this show a little just so I can experience the pleasure of rewatching it yet one more time.

Y’all can get your instant gratification elsewhere.
HBO was killing it in the late 90s and early 2000s, as well as The Wire they had the Sopranos, Band of Brothers, Rome and Deadwood and others.

Collectively they were a watershed moment for different reasons.

The Shield inspired many shows that have since come after. Including the wire.

I could list a load of favourites off, so I will, highlights include:

Omar's miracle leap from the balcony (never really explained).

Omar and Brother meeting for the second time "Omar listenin"

Omar's demise, it not only shocks, because it comes out of nowhere, but really encapsulates the way The Wire isn't a 'hollywood' thing, it's more realistic and real life is more chaotic and less obvious than most fiction.

The entire final montage that shows the real Baltimore, real versions of all the characters we see and how, despite all that's happened throughout the series, nothing has changed.

Hurk, Carver, Prez and Daniels trying to move a Desk INTO the office, whilst Lester sits back and enjoys the stupidity.

But if I had to pick one...

Cheese getting his comeuppance from Slim Charles. "blah blah blah blah" BANG

Yeah, the Shield, which is excellent, followed the path set out by the Sopranos, namely the main character didn't have to be a 'Goodie', but a real person with Good and Bad traits, aka the Anti-Hero. Also, the Shield only premiered two months before The Wire.

Slim Charles played the game the best, my fave character after watching it a few times. Cutty saying to him the game has changed and Slim just telling him “nah it just got fierce” or however he said it.

Different people see different things, I always though Slim was the equivalent of Hodor from GoT. Hung around not doing much until his very last scene. “That was for Joe”

No, he knew the score.

Could Hodor persuade Omar not to pop him?

I follow the_wire_fans Instagram account . Plenty of decent clips on there. Can’t believe it’s 19 years old. Let’s hope they do a Friends style reunion show (joke)

I was given Generation Kill for my birthday 8 months ago but still not got round to watching it yet ! (It’s only been on tv once from what I’ve seen)
