Seen it twice already, 3D both times. Going to see again during the week.
It helped to be a fan of the whole genre and have seen all the previous Marvel movies and know the story lines behind each character.
I was pleased when I heard Joss Whedon was directing as I'm a huge fan of his previous works so had faith he wouldn't let this be a flop.

3D or not 3D?

I'm thinking not, last time I went to see it in Avatar it sent my eyes funny. Plus the tickets are expensive enough as it is!

Saw this last night. Simply AWESOME film!

Fab action film, very funny (but wasn't a parody, but nor did it take itself too seriously). Absolutely perfectly judged.

As others have said, they also managed all of the characters very, very well. Not one dominated, it was about all of them. And it really worked.

I also liked the 3D. They used it properly - nothing jumping out at you, just a great sense of depth.

Best, most complete, film I've seen for a long time. And the first time in ages I've walked out thinking I'd like to see it again!

Oh and another thing, I've seen all the Marvel films (except for Norton's Hulk) but the wife has only seen Iron Man 1. Is she not going to have a clue what's going on or do I need to run her basic premises from IM2/Thor/CA?

A bit of background wouldn't hurt but as Joss is experienced at dealing with characters with background it's not essential (Firefly/Serenity) Prob explain Loki a bit and how CA came to be.

Can't tell you how much I enjoyed this film smile

There always seems to be a need in some people to ignore the fact there's no spoiler alert in the thread title. They then don't use spoiler tags when giving away really quite good lines. I don't know whether its some displaced superiority at having already seen the film, trollish behaviour, or just abject fking stupidity.

Cheers for that you fking tard.
You must have had an inkling that by clicking on the thread you may well read something that may just spoil your enjoyment of the film? Don't click on the thread then. This is PH after all.

Haven't seen the film yet, but the spoilers really don't bother me. Am looking forward to going, think I'll give 3-D a miss.

I am off to see it this afternoon, knowing nothing about the previous story / characters / anything to do with comics!

Let's hope it is as good as the hype makes it out to be.

Saw this last night and me and the missus thought it was absolutely brill. Probably one of the best superhero movies I've seen. Good story and buildup, all the characters got some decent screen time and had lots to do and very humorous to boot. Whedon got that spot on.

Oh and despite the fact that most of us must be pretty jaded by all the OTT effects films nowadways, this film still mananged to drop my jaw in some of action set pieces. The last half an hour of the film especially is a non-stop thrill ride.

Hulk and Ironman did steal the show with both those characters getting the lions share of the best lines. I always knew Downey could deliver on the Iron Man front but the Hulk adapatation in this movie is by far the best yet. None of other films had quite managed to capture the awesome power of the Hulk but by the end of this you will KNOW that Hulk is a complete badass.

The one slight hiccup is that it is never really explained how he goes from a mindless raging beast to all of a sudden becoming a fully fledged team player and taking orders??

All in all I'd rate it a 8.5/10. Go see it now!

Banner is always angry, basically he is saying he has a good deal of control over the big guy, and can as stark put it 'use the green guy as a suit'

I am rather miffed that they killed off Phil, he was one of my favourite characters and tied all the films together being a constant and had a great and different relationship with all the main heros and pepper

Just saw it this morning and thought it was AWESOME!

Yes, there were plot holes big enough to drive the big alien whale thingies through but who cares? It was BRILLIANT.

Some real laugh out loud moments in amongst the eye-popping action too.

Edit:
Yes, I was really sad they killed off Phil too. He was kind of like Wedge Antilles - you expected him to make it by now

Oh, one thing I would say is that I would definitely give the 3D a miss. I found it gimmicky and distracting and think the film would probably be better in 2D.

It would do no harm to run though a few basics although I wouldn't say she needs to have seen all the other films. But maybe a bit of background, especially Captain America otherwise she will go "huh?" to Stark calling Captain America "old timer" and people mentioning 70 years and stuff.

Really enjoyed it.

Hulk did have the best lines.

But who was that villain after the credits.

Hmm sorry not really buying that. If he has control, why was he rampaging through the ship earlier on and trying to kill Black Widow and Thor?

because he has a good deal of control not complete control, on the carrier he is thrown by an explosion and wakes up hurting and turns into the hulk, when he fights the aliens later he instantly and purposefully turns into the hulk in control. Thats how I interpreted it anyway

Read back a page or two - it's been answered several times in spoiler tags including a link to further info.

This can't possibly be considered a spoiler as it was a case of 'when' not 'if', but am I the only one who is starting to find Stan Lee's cameos in these films rather tedious now?
