Probably to minimise the need to bring in characters the audience hadn't met yet and also to give them things to add in in sequels?
just seems strange seeming they were the orginal avengers. when captian america and black widow were not!

It looks awesome, however from the trailer it looks like the main guy they are fighting against is Loki? Aside from anything else Thor beat him by himself in Thor....any ideas?

Looking forward to seeing Hawkeye, I think Jeremy Renner is becoming really good as pretty much anyone he plays!

Regarding Diana Rigg:-

A still from The Avengers episode "A touch of brimstone"........smile

The name "Emma Peel" was deliberately chosen as a skit on "Man appeal"........yes

Diana Rigg was simply gorgeous.

I'm too young to remember the Avengers on TV (at a modest 37 I'm afraid) but she was stunning and the best Bond girl ever

Yeh, irks me a bit too, but Hank Pym and Wasp just don't have crossover appeal and are not that popular within the Marvel universe compared to Cap, Hulk Iron-Man and Thor who are all massive sellers. Hawkeye has a bit of a cult following as well I think, I always thought he was lame. A fella who can fire a bow...wowbiggrin

edit
I thought the Ultimates (which the films seem to resemble a lot) was the best way to go for a film version.

This is looking so good, really can't wait to see it.

Need to get Thor & Cap on Bluray in the meantime as, despite intending to, I never got round to seeing them at the cinema.
