The Avengers

Watched this recently, pretty much by accident, as we went to watch another film, but it was full. Thought it was fantastic, really enjoyed it. We saw it in 3-d, I'm looking forward to seeing it on Blu-ray in 2-d as I reckon it way be better visually.

Great film, I haven't seen ANY of the films that the characters are from, yet as a stand alone film it works really well. Now I need to watch the other marvel films...

Gonna go a step further and say that although I enjoyed it in parts, I was left disappointed by the naff-ness of it all. Robert Downey jr and Mark Ruffalo were excellent though.

For me, it didn't in anyway live up to its hype, the quality of the underlying film beneath the quips and SFX is dire.

Yep, didnt want to rain on the parade of the posters who have been suggesting its the best film they have ever seen, but have to agree with you.

Standard, generic stuff. Bit of a shame after the build up of 5 seperate films that they couldnt come up with a more interesting idea really.

Has anyone purchased the US blu ray at all? Thinking about getting this version as it comes with all the extras and is supposed to be region free.

I bought the Blu-Ray, can't talk about the region-free aspect, but the quality was excellent, comes with the American post-credits scene in the restaurant rather than the Thanos teaser in the cinema.

I thought the UK release had both. I've certainly seen both additions

May well do, just seemed to show the restaurant scene when I watched it. Didn't see much of the bonus content besides the deleted scenes and gag reel though, so it could be somewhere amongst that.

American blu ray has the commentary (not so fussed)and also the digital copy (am fussed!)

I have liked a lot of the Marvel films especially the Sam Raimi Spiderman and everyone has been telling me how good Avengers Assemble is including friends whom I respect their film reviews. I also do like a lot of crap pop corn films as well as the odd French arthouse stuff.

One of my kids got the DVD for his birthday so I sat down late last night, glass of red and a marmite bagel and waited to be entertained.

I was soooooo fekin' bored. I can't explain it but it did nothing for me and after finally getting to some excitement and seeing the battle on the Cloud Base rip off (See Captain Scarlett) I then realised that after over an hour there was still an hour to go. I turned it off and went to bed.

Maybe I need to see it again but even that rubbish that was Prometheus was more interesting. I do feel like the Emperor in the 'Emperor's New Clothes' but why does everyone think this is such a good film?

I saw Dredd a few weeks back and I loved that, I saw Looper and I loved that and I saw Taken 2 and hated it even though I loved Taken. Just giving you an insight into what I like.

Whilst I am probably going to regret this I can't stop myself. The hellicarriers first appearance in the avengers was in 1965. Cloud Base from Captain Scarlet was 1967. I don't know if Gerry Anderson read Marvel comics though, so probably a coincidence.

Suprised you don't like it though as from your comments on other recent movies I think we have similar tastes.

I am surprised too Rob as I was really looking forward to seeing it. My son had lost it somewhere in the house and I only found it late last night but as I said it left me cold.

I will have to give it another try I suppose

I am genuinely surprised that anyone could be bored by Avengers Assemble. It was non stop action.

But hey, if we all liked the same stuff it'd be pretty boring around here.

Uk release does have both. Thanos is mid credit (after the main cast names superimposed over their weapons). Then shwarma comes at the very end.

Get the sainsburys version and it comes with a 90min documentary on a second Bluray. Although it appears to be a collection of shorter docs about each movie.

Special features are quite lacking on all the uk copies so I would expect a 'limited edition' version sometime in the next couple of months.

This, if anything I'd say it's a little light on story\plot as it just has so much to fit it but boring is something I can never imagine it being called. If you want to see boring superhero movies, check out the Nolan Batman Trilogy or Superman Returns, not bad films per se but all far too slow in a lot of places for what are supposed to be superhero movies....zzzzzzzzzzz
