ID late 80s semi-horror film....

I am trying to remember the title of a late 80s horror film.
it featured a young lad who finds/gets given a tape recording of a rock bands final album, the album the band recored before the lead singer died/was killed. the tape it was recroded on was really shiny, mirrored perhaps.
When it is played it seems to kill the listener and its all centred around some sort of conspiracy against the dead rock star, some girls ears melt in it while she is in a car half naked.
It may or may not feature songs played backwards.
