Considering it's called 'The Restoration Man' one would expect restoration to be seen to be done. I guess they are trying to be different from 'tother programmes of such but, come on, programme makers, lets see a tad more of the restoration please!

I would suggest that this is due to the building, last nights was in good nick, all it needed was conversion to a living space, rather than some of the wrecks that have featured previously

Did I miss the bit about budgets ect or do they not focus on that?

I know the said: Bought for 100K - with 200K to spend and a crane that cost £450 per day... but that was about it for costs was it?

Probably that and the camera crew not wanting to spend too much time in all that snow. hehe

Yup! That is all that was mentioned on the subject; was rather hoping for more on the cost at the end of the programme.

I think he missed a trick not putting in that funky vac system, laundry chute etc.

It would do my head in trudging up and down the stairs, just taking in a week shopping would be a PITA. Kids too, I would be constantly stting myself that they had fallen down the stairs or chucked something off the balcony.

It looked nicely finished but did nothing for me, fair play to him though.

For the price of that funky vacuum system, you could put a Miele on each floor. It takes up less space than the enormous slinky hose you have to drag around, and can get replaced when needed. Saves a fortune.

On the other hand, laundry chute and dumb waiter - duh!

Very impressed if they kept to that budget, though it was smaller inside than I expected at the end. Very good finish, it seemed. Loved the project, couldn't live in it (need a garden and garage that's not a long walk away). The presenter needs a goatee to stroke whilst he prognosticates.

I didn't see all the program, but the heating bill will be huge with what looked solid brick walls and all that open space. Did they use a GSHP or anything smart?

Dumb waiter and laundry chute please!

Looks like it'll cost a chunk to heat (plenty of scope for solar though) but what amazing views and a great building.

Liked the pebble beach roof room floor biggrin

I don't believe it was mentioned, though it's always possible I missed a bit whilst making a cuppa.

I hated that and couldn't really see the point in it. Would be cold underfoot in winter as well an uncomfortable to walk on.

I did like it for it's novelty value but I couldn't live in it as a main family home. Holiday home maybe for a bit of peace, I doubt you'd heard much from outside through those walls

As a personal project it was excellent.

However, I know they briefly talked about staying there for many years to come.. but you've always got to keep resale in mind right? Yes it was an impressive structure - but is it a house you would want to buy?

Lets not forget the whopping great watertower with comms masts all over it as your neighbour.

It featured at the start but I did notice that they filmed in a way to keep it out of shot after that! biggrin. I live in Congleton and, yes, the new one really is an eyesore, sitting as prominently as it does.

I saw the scaffolding up on the water tower 12 months back and wondered to myself whether it might appear on Grand Designs. It was a pleasant surprise to see it crop up on the "Next Week" bit at the end of the last week's Restoration Man.

There are some lovely views over the Cheshire Plain from the higher areas around town so I can just imagine what their roof terrace view must be like on a sunny day.

I want to like the programme, but finding it difficult. Not enough restoration shown of the water tower. Too much of the presenter in a London sewer/ponsing around drawing primary school diagramme's etc.
A 3rd rate Grand Designs!

This programme is starting to annoy me - very little is shown of the build. Most seems to be George waffling on about everything except the build.

My first words to my OH 5 mins in, "here are two mad people".

Very little shown of the build itself and 10 minutes about the sale of the pews, why did they go to the auction anyway its not Cash in the Attic or similar. Its all drama, dumbing down. I noted that nuheat were on the credits, must have done a deal there but I can't even remember underfloor heating being mentioned.

I thought this was a poor program this week in many ways.
