Either way, like the original, it needs to be crammed with top stars! Could be brilliant, but I doubt it.

(Like the Jeff Bridges idea. What about Steve Buscemi as the Doc)

Josh Brolin has a bit of Burt Reynolds about him.

Eddie Izzard as the weird doctor.

This thread is going to take up too much of my afternoon!

...and their cars?

Would the Japanese guys be in a Nissan GTR?

What would the Roger Moore character be in - a Rapide? DBS?

The Sheik - gotta be a Phantom?

Pierce Brosnan for Roger Moore. Keeps the Bond connection alive.

And some bird with big nips for Farrah Fawcett!

good shout with the Bond connection....

Someone anal for Foyt...perhaps Steve Coogan, to keep the pompus chip on shoulder attitude going?

A few cameos for real car nuts? Rowan Atkinson, Jay Leno race starters?

The Japs need to be driving something like a rocket Prius or Leaf, a GTR is too obvious.

The biggest mistake they could make is to make it too silly or too serious. Getting it right would be quite the ask.

It needs to be rammed to the gunwales with top stars though, most would do it for free if the profits went to a worldwide charity...

"The Cannonball will fall to the forces of Islam!"

Regarding the remake, they need to get it right otherwise it just won't work, remember the remake of Ocean's 11 (ignore the sequels) Soderbergh got that pitch perfect. But would the CB remake have the budget to get the ensemble cast it really needs to make it work?

This would be a dream cast - never going to happen though...

J.J. McClure: Clooney or Hugh Jackman or Eric Bana or Robert Downey Jnr
Victor Prinzim / Cpt Chaos:
Pamela Glover: Gwyneth Paltrow
Jamie Blake: Dan Ackroyd or Mark Wahlberg
Morris Fenderbaum: Don Cheadle or, whisper it Eddie Murphy?
Arthur J. Foyt: Will Ferrell or Ewan McGregor
Seymour Goldfarb, Jr: Daniel Craig or Pierce Brosnan
Subaru Driver #1: Jackie Chan - it just has to be
Sheik Abdul ben Falafel: Omid Djalili - good call by the poster above
Terry Bradshaw: Johnny Knoxville
Mel Tillis: Micky Rourke
Marcie: Cameron Diaz
Jill: Charlize Theron
Doctor Nikolas Van Helsing: Jack Black
Bradford Compton: Bear with me on this! Richard Branson biggrin
Mad Dog: Chris Rock

See the one i've left blank I really can't think of a person to fill that cape... (flame suit on) Mike Myers? paperbag

For the smaller parts...

Jimmy 'The Greek' bookmaker - Dennis Farina (in keeping with the Guy Ritchie connections)
Mad Dogs buddy - Charlie Sheen (with Sam Jackson as Mad Dog...so he can officially be in every fime ever made) 'you are gonna take the short cut aren't you?'

This thread will take up my day nicely smile

how about Dom Jolly at Captain Chaos?

And Pierce Brosnan playing a Bond lookalike, pretending to be Bond, in an Aston Vanquish/7 series... (after his role in Mama Mia, he might be up for it...)

Jay Len as Foyt?

Sadly I doubt Brock Yates could play Brock Yaes, so how about Jay Leno?

Kurt and Kyle Busch in a Nascar, playing the southern boys..

Maybe they could do a better job, the original is just a lot of mildly amusing car related sketches used by stars trying to be funny loosely bound up in a car race.
