You cannot improve on this or the rest of the film.
I've always loved that title sequence. At the end as the Lamborghini pulls up behind and then takes the Police car, the soundtrack and speed differential is just fantastic! I'm pretty sure the helicopter cams intention was to pull back much faster to track the disappearing Countach, but it's gone from shot by the time it's pulled out - splendid.
Absolutely no need to remake this film, the original stands up still as a fantastic fun star vehicle, the like of which they just don't/can't afford to make these days.
Burt Reynolds must have just been permantly laughing his head off for about five years whilst making Cannonball Run 1 & 2, Hooper and Smokey & The Bandit 1, 2 & 3.

Burt - "So you're going to pay us a whole heap of money to make a bunch of films involving me and my Hollywood mates arsing about in cars?"
Studio exec - "That about sums it up Mr Reynolds."
Burt - "And I get to cop off with Farrah Fawcett and Sally Field?"
Studio exec - "Yes Mr Reynolds"
Burt - "Where do I sign?"

The only part that grates about the title sequence is the reuse ofdifferent angles the same shot...

Maybe they could do a better job, the original is just a lot of mildly amusing car related sketches used by stars trying to be funny loosely bound up in a car race.

Plus, forget the missing Lambo/Jakie Chan/etc.... you simply couldn't have the film without... Dan dan daaaaaaaaaaaa......

And I cannot think of an actor alive that could play that role anywhere near the manical joyfull nature as played in the original. Although Guy Richie would probably cast Jason Statham and make him a proper hard nut london geezer rolleyes
Ill do it, i am very practiced at being Captain Chaos! hehe

If Ricky Gervais comes within 1000 miles of any re-make, you can shove it where the sun never shines!

A lotof 'em!

Reynold's ended his career because he kept choosing duffers over hitsbiggrin You can only choose so many duffers.

The current Bond would be much better than Brosnan. I think Omar would make a good Captain Chaos.

Edit
Just watched the intro (which gave me a buzz), and saw Seymours girls. Made me think they could have Robert Downey Junior (which for some reason I first typed as John Depp Junior) as the deluded one instead of Bond. A rich business man looking for kicks who really thinks he is Iron-Man.

J.J. McClure: Clooney or Hugh Jackman or Eric Bana or Robert Downey Jnr. the Clooney has it
Victor Prinzim / Cpt Chaos: You'll hate me for this, but Jim Carrey(think Me, Myself and Irene)
Pamela Glover: Gwyneth Paltrow Cameron Diaz
Jamie Blake: Dan Ackroyd or Mark Wahlberg Armand Assante, Tommy Lee Jones, John Slattery
Morris Fenderbaum: Don Cheadle or, whisper it Eddie Murphy?
Arthur J. Foyt: Will Ferrell or Ewan McGregor Absolutely has to be Steve Carell(or maybe David Paymer); accept no substitute.
Seymour Goldfarb, Jr: Daniel Craig or Pierce Brosnan

Doctor Nikolas Van Helsing: Jack Black Christopher Lloyd, who else does swivel eyed loony quite so well?
Bradford Compton: Bear with me on this! Richard Branson biggrinDowney Jr. could do this in his sleep
Mad Dog: Chris Rock
Batman: Scott Grimes

No Paltrow or Diaz for god's sake. Paltrow far too flavourless, Diaz.. just no. Everything else is negotiable. Stunning blonde with acting ability? Charlize Theron all the way to the bank and back. Maggie Q as her brunette co-driver as she knows her stuff when it comes to cars and is very cool. Get Michelle Pfeiffer on the phone to put a classic beauty into the mix too, preferably in a 365GTC. Importantly, they need to ensure a nice selection of machinery rather than just the newest car from whatever marque was in the original (or whoever pays the most to have their cars featured). Nothing beats hot totty in a classic super car IMO.

Oh and some incredible cinematography had better be at the top of the list. With the budget likely available they shouldn't miss a trick, Topgear manage to do a great job when they do a big story. stty acting and decent car scenes made a fortune for the Fast & the Furious franchise so I hope they manage to get milk this properly.

Matt Damon should be doing something in this just for giving us the Talented Mr Ripley and the Bourne series alone.

Yeh he would be good, he has that simple thing spot on, never seen those films but he is very good in Bored To Death. Between him and Omar for me.
