Jack Black hehe
He would be awful, he hasn't got the vulnerability of DeLuise, he would be far too harsh/psychotic.

Eric Bana, would make a great JJ.
Kevin James (King of Queens etc) as Victor.
Jeff Bridges as the Doc.

The two priests
John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson

Fitties in Lambo (has to be Lambo, no questions.)
Amber Heard and Megan Fox?

Pierce Brosnan as the Bond-ish Character for sure, the irony and his character would work well.

Jet Li and Kamui Kobayashi in the Japanese entry?

Matt Damon and Chris Rock in the pick up truck.

Lucas Black and Sean William Scott in the Hick Camaro (personally I think they should keep it old school but have it very highly tuned)

Cameron Diaz would make an ideal Pamela Glover, slightly dippy but very attractive.

A J Foyt, Tommy Lee Jones.

Omid Djalili has to be the Sheikh, perfect.

This film could be great, but alas, it could also be utter durge. Whoever takes it on, please be careful.

I watched both films back to back with a friend years ago and afterwards we started talking about what would make a good modern day version.
We came to the conclusion that Burt Reynolds and Farah Fawcett’s characters should have a son called JJ Jr who wants to race in the Cannonball. Struggling for a co driver he approaches his Dad who has become a bit of a recluse since Victor died. Since Victors death JJ has been turning into Captain Chaos whenever there is trouble.

We also thought Timothy Dalton would be a better choice for the guy who thinks he's Bond.

Spot on. His turn in Hot Fuzz/Dr Who makes me agree.
Still think Craig would be good though.

With that line up it couldn't fail, but leave the original alone, it's still a great film and would likely sit in my top 20 of all time.

Can't see it working, the humour of films like that is certainly of its time just wouldn't be able to get away with it now.

Will be all CGI nonsense anyway.

Oh, I have decreed that it should. Be all stunt work, a la Hal Needham.

My worry to.

If it happens the only way I can see it working is if they treat it the same way that they did the Italian Job. Common title, common thread, but otherwise a totally different film.

No... That is nothing like the Cannonball run. That was more 'Whacky races'.

Anyway, anyone remember the short lived Tv show 'Drive', where folks were on a cross country road race? That got cancelled to. Had Nathan Fillian in as well.

Two of my favourite films ever. You just know the cast had such a good time making the films and it really shows.

Just leave it alone, walk away, don't make a crappy cheesy modern remake. Pleeeease. smile
