Bond 23 - Skyfall
Discussion
Caught it last night, really enjoyed it - bit of a departure from the usual Bond fayre, not so triumphant. Bond's on the back-foot all the way. Enjoyed seeing more back-story.
One aspect I didn't like so much, he's gone from New Boy to "I'm too old for this st" in 3 films. Possibly because of my own fear of ageing.
Product placement wasn't as bad as I'd feared from some reviews.
Q, new M, Moneypenny, don't think this version of JB needs them, but it seemed to work well.

Ignoring all the plot holes, and suspending one's sense of disbelief for a bit, i quite enjoyed Skyfall. The Quality of the cinematography was i think high, nice lighting and framing, and even the bit pat players seems to be decent actors. Considering the trailers suggested a complete action-fest, there were long periods of dialogue and no action, which i enjoyed actually.
My two criticisms revolve around the love interest with Severine not really being played out, i think there was room to expand on that jepardy situation a bit more, and Silva not really getting much screen time of being allowed to build a proper sense of malice with Bonds character.
Some scenes were particularily well done though, the sequence in the skyscraper, with the external advertising hording lights being reflected in the glass partitions was really quite excellent for example.
A solid 7/10 for me, not bad, but perhaps the script wasn't as strong as you might have hoped given the quality of the cast.

Sad old men wishing they were James Bond overrating a film which isn't even that decent compared to films in its own genre let alone the entire film word. Absurd to call it 'brilliant' and wouldn't be done by anyone who had actually seen a brilliant film.
Lovely to see some intelligent insightful comment! JonRB said:

Oh yea?
Well its not as good as Titanic (fact).
In your opinion. Well its not as good as Titanic (fact).
Titanic is actually a bit crap, as anyone who has actually seen a brilliant film would know.
Mind you my point was that box office revenues are not the best indicator. I bet loads of James Bond wannabes went to see it multiple times!

And I bet it gives you a hard-on knowing how superior you are to them. Not really understanding why you give a st either way, to be quite honest.

Its not something that keeps me up at night but it does irk me to see an average film praised as though its something special. Its not IMO.
People and their differing opinions. It is annoying isn't it! If only everyone thought the same, we could all agree then. Edited by TheHeretic on Sunday 24th February 22:29

I cannot believe I actually got dragged out to the cinema to see this film, a waste of two hours
I was astonished how poor Skyfall was, especially given all the hype. Went with my better half to the cinema last night for the first time since the Skyfall disappointment. Die Hard 4/5/6 or whatever. It's a sad day when time is better spent with John McClane than James Bond.
