Just seen the trailer. FFS. Q looks like Harry Potter. Ridiculously miscast, already pissed off
Meh. They said there couldn't be a female M. They said Bond couldn't be blond. They said Bond films weren't relevant anymore.
All untrue. A new Q in a new age, the geek is cool again and a Q for the modern age is surely as geeky as it gets. I forsee an interesting new dynamic with Bond that should prove entertaining.
And he looked like a tool when he shot him then.
Imo Moore looked blond anyway, never really bothered me. I think that Bond should be English and not a woman, but the rest was fine. I think current M is ace, I always thought that would work because of the actor.

Yeah I can see the new dynamic coming into it. Not saying it won't work. But the better relationship imo is when the quartermaster has age/seniority over Bond.Imo Moore looked blond anyway, never really bothered me. I would hazard a guess because Fleming retconned a Scottish dad for Bond after coming round to liking that Scottish brute (who can't do accents) as the first Bond. With a Swiss mum.
Connery could not (cannot) do accents but Terence Young did manage to smooth out a lot of creases from the dockworker. Young was public school educated and Connery copied Young so he could play an English public school educated Englishman. Sadly though the biggest crease of his accent couldn't be totally polished away, but it was nicely bevelled enough so he could pass as if he had actually been buggered to death on an English cricket pitch...or whatever.

I suspect that is indeed the reality of the situation but given that the only time the character's origins are mentioned are as above, I don't think it counts!Connery could not (cannot) do accents but Terence Young did manage to smooth out a lot of creases from the dockworker. Well it obviosuly counts because that's what happened.Bond is the product...or as I type this (not sure if Craig's bond is the same??)...was the product if the English public school system, with all it's penchant for buggery, snobbishness and toasted figgins. Connery was unable (and hasn't ever?) to change his accent save for the rougher bits and so we get the only non-English sounding Bond, though you can tell he is very polished in those early Bond films. That's why two angles, a welshie, an Irish and even an Ozzie all put on toff English accents in later years.
I recall there being talk of Mel Gibson being Bond, or Sharon Stone. That prompted my original statement. British in nationality is fine, but they all sound super English, thanks to the upbringing. I do not think there could be a non-English sounding Bond now, even though the original didn't (so much).

I hear the books in Connery's accent still. Besides, I know plenty of English public-school types who have Scottish accents so it doesn't trouble me. Besides, Dalton and Brosnan hardly sounded upper crust! Lazenby sounded just odd, frankly, so really it's just Roger that brings the public-school voice and he was pretty ridiculous as a tough guy!

Fair enough but I disagree-if there's no record of it, it didn't happen.

I like all the Bonds and all the accents.
I tried to imagine McGregor as Bond, but all I got was a bad impersonation of Connery.
OK they may not have sounded upper crust, just English then.

I hear Dalton as being very welsh, btw. The way he says "Cara" in TLD especially so...funny thing, perception.

I mean record of his background. The only recorded version has him Scottish/Swiss; we can only guess what Fleming originally meant. If I write a series book about an anonymous character, originally intending them to be female but on book 3, I change my mind and publish them as male, then the character is male!

Well it's hardly not well known, and referred in quite a lot of places.I hear Dalton as being very welsh, btw. The way he says "Cara" in TLD especially so...funny thing, perception.
Yeah, because he sounds very English to me, which isn't surprising since he was brought up with the Angles and lived there in his formative years with his English dad.
