They're very mechanical, they don't have that extra dimension, that Bond's personality give the Bond films....and more importantly - who'd win in a punch up, Bond or Bourne?

I hope the humour is kept to a minimum. But there needs to be some, otherwise it would be a clone of that wholly soulless series of films involving Bourne.
Can't agree with you here Halb. I really enjoyed the Bourne trilogy and the fact that he was emotionless in the most part was the point of the character. At the end of the day The Bourne Identity was released in the same year as the utterly dreadful "Die Another Day", which could well have been the final nail in the coffin for JB had they not decided that moving it more in Bourne's direction may help revive things.
I think we should be thanking Bourne for proving that daft gadgets and dodgy CGI are not something that is required to make a good box-office thriller.
Oh yes, I think we have Bourne to thank for showing Bond the way out of the Brosnan mire. I think it would have happened anyway, but watching Bourne might have helped them toughen it more more than they would have done.
Also, don't think I disliked Bourne. I enjoyed them when I watched them, the are a good exercise. I just think they are not as engaging as Bond, due to the mechanical nature. And so I wouldn't rewatch them like I rewatch Bond.

Even though CR came out 4 years after BI I can guarantee I've watched it many more times, and of the 2 it's the only one I own in BR format.

Casino royal got the humour just right I thought.
Crashing those peoples car in the parking lot. "I've got an itch", "Allow me"
subtle not cartoonish like Brosnan.
Even the comedy in CR is tinged with a little darkness, which suits the film perfectly.Crashing those peoples car in the parking lot. "I've got an itch", "Allow me"

One of my favourite lines is
Barman - "Shaken or stirred?"
JB - "Do I look like I give a damn"

Actually, that annoyed me. Bond should give a damn if his Martini is shaken or stirred.
he wasn't 'Bond' at that point. He only became 'Bond' after the death of whatsherface, and this was pointed out when he had Mr White on the steps at the end. "Bond, James Bond", then the music...
