That must be a more recent picture rather than one from the series? Looks far too well-made, not enough air-freshener content.

this is from a box of some of my own toys from a few(!) decades ago. I had the interceptor with the big missile too, and I seem to recall the sort of truck/tank like thing which had a lid that flipped over to reveal missile launcher.

Looks familiar, especially the firing mechanism.

I also 'inherited' one of these. biggrin

You could actually believe this is a real ship based on the way the weapons and thrusters are laid out (although they didn't adhere to correct spaceship physics in the movie - the ship does appear to have been designed in a similar manner to the B5 Starfury).
Great ship and great film. Why the hell haven't they made a sequel or reboot of this yet. It is absolutely ripe for it and with today's CGI technology would look insane!

It was a film of its time. Unless they set it in the 80's, how would today's ubiquitous hand-held mobile gaming translate into the story of an accidental hero obsessed with a single video game since it is the only game available in his trailer park?

Don't get me wrong - it's a great film - but I just don't see how they could reboot it in the modern age.

A good writer could do it; have the app be the scouting program for the aliens, or maybe a sort of update/sequel where the old call for help dyed because tech moved had moved on, on Earth, and then someone has a retro night (I've been to one of thee in Manchester) with old 80s arcades and by playing the alien game it sends a signal to the last remnants of a destroyed people, with the legendary weapon...or something.

Yep arcades are having a resurgence, they could easily work it into the story. Kid goes to a mall arcade, everyone is playing the latest and greatest stuff but he goes to the loo and from a back room hears a machine come on and start going through the classic "You have been recruited by the Star League" spiel. He sneaks round the back and finds the old game covered in dust sheets, pulls them off and starts playing. Get's caught by the kindly old caretaker who agrees to let the kid play and the story continues from there.

I've just done a google and it appears the original screenwriter holds the rights to the movie and refuses to sell. Easily solved, just offer him a few million or a 0.5% share in the profits, I'm sure he'll soon get over his reluctance.

I reckon a clever writer who writes an intelligent script could do it. Probably doesn't want his property fked up.
I reckon a quasi remake/sequel in the same way Ghostbusters remake/sequel was (but not a massive turd with no soul like Ghostbusters remake/sequel) designed, it requires the original to make sense, but is a fresh look at it. With a weapon that was never used, or failed, or was stolen/lost.

A good writer would bypass all the 'retro night' etc bks and just set it in the 80s.

Removing films from their correct time period when doing a remake is what fks most of them up. Alfie, Italian Job, you name it.

Stepford Wives only worked because it was a comedy (as was the original, it's just that no-one realised it at the time.)

Love the original STepford Wives, the remake is st, hopeless comedy.

Other remakes where time has changed and works,
Ladykillers
The THing
Invasion of the Bodysnatchers
The Fly
Dirty Rotten Scpundrels
Cape Fear

there's no real reason to set it in the 80s, unless the director would want that 80's aesthetic. Not saying it wouldn't work, I like some things set back then. Really enjoyed Super-8.

Great ideas! I had never thought of that. The retro gaming angle sounds awesome. thumbup

I've been obsessed with it since I was a kid, the battle at the end of ROTJ and the death star scene is fantastic I just love the way when it is first introduced it referred to as a piece of junk but becomes one of the main focal points of the trilogy.

Practical effect too for most shots...which I generally think looks better.

Some of the shops from Babylon 5 were excellent, but the answer is, obviously, Serenity. Wasn’t pretty, wasn’t special, wasn’t fast or big or strong but it felt real and lived-in.

The n again, Lucy the ship from Killjoys is kinda cool too.

NCC-1701-E for me. USS Enterprise from the last 3 films. Lots of power, lots of quantum torpedoes took a beating from the Scimitar and still survived. The Enterprise D with all its might always came across as a weak ship to me.
