Tickets booked for Thurday. We were going on Friday, but bizarrely its only the opening night that cinemas are showing a 2D screening, all other days are 3D only. I don't particularly like 3D films, one friend has a damaged eye so 3D doesn't work for him, and another wears glasses that 3D glasses wont fit comfortably over, so none of us find the 3D experience particularly appealing.

It has, even Empire gave it 5*

If she won't, i'm going anyway!

Wish I'd caught this today, some of the cars in Sydney. Great pics in the gallery:

There is an article about the vehicles in this month's Street Machine. They were all functional, most used Hilux or similar chassis with Aus sourced bodies on top.

The Gigahorse is powered by 2 supercharged Chevy 502 big blocks coupled together using a custom made transmission - good for 1200hp and a top speed of 95 km/h!

Apparently they crushed 120 tonnes of cars in South Africa because they were all there on carnet so had to be destroyed or shipped back.

The reviews are nothing short of sensational - I'm in - and so is Mrs Paolow whether she likes it or not!
One question though - Ive never seen a 3d film at the cinema - do I make this my first?

Just went out of the cinema. It's nothing like Max we know and love, particularly in atmosphere. Completely different style. Nothing short of amazing, stunning, visually mesmerising. I've never seen anything like it this year and more. Good news are that all the trailers we've seen are in the first 10-15 minutes of it. Very clever. Bad points - they bothered with the script and dialogs, but it doesn't need any. Just shouts. Tom Hardy plays Tom Hardy. Slightly messed up ending to these eyes. As I've said a couple of posts back, it had alot to keep up to. Road Warrior is a masterpiece. This one is when you just sitting with your jaw on the floor, alongside with your popcorn upside down. No masterpiece, but definitely makes viewer feel special, especially petrolheads 9/10

BTW Not so much for R rating, really
BTW2 They destroyed the Interceptor. Twice frown

Was an epic film, refreshing to see practical effects instead of cgi.

I...didn't like it so much.

I love the Trilogy (well maybe not Thunderdome so much), but this lacked something.

The story was a bit vague, there was very list character establishment (if you'd not seen the first movies, you'd have no idea who Max was and why he was there). No real explanation to the ghost/nightmare images he kept seeing.

Visually it was amazing, I've wanted to build a post-apocalyptic style vehicle for ages and this didn't help, but some of the effect were quite poor when Immortan Joe's monster truck drove over the rock slide in the canyon, it moved really awkwardly, it was either poor CGI or an r/c scale model that they didn't edit properly in post.

The story was just a bit running away in the desert and people keep attacking and that was it. Nothing really about characters or history.

I was disappointed. I'll probably get it when it comes out on Blu-Ray for the vehicles, but it won't be in my 'most watched' collection like the originals.

I have been a fan of Mad Max since I was a kid (Thunderdome less so) so I was concerned that Fury Road would be another lacklustre reboot/revival (like the most recent Indiana Jones, or Robocop), or just full of CGI guff. We went to watch it last night and it was brilliant. It was an edge of seat chase from start to finish. Character back stories are only hinted at but that leaves a bit of mystery, sometimes we don't want chapter and verse on each character. Definitely worth a watch!

I went last night as well.

Enjoyed it but wished we'd gone to a 2D showing, I really dislike 3d.

Yeah the 3D didn't add much in my opinion, I find it distracting if anything. It didn't look quite right, but that might
be more to do with our little old fashioned cinema's equipment. It's very nice and quaint but the screen is about a quarter of your standard 'Vue' cinema!

I also detest 3D, but it worked ok for me this time. The sandstorm scene had a pleasant depth in it, for example

I'm just back from a viewing.

Quite impressed with the film, it really rattles along at a good pace. Excellent vehicles and some innovative special effects. CGI usage appeared moderate which is good in my opinion.

The ending was a bit of a let down though

8.5 / 10

PS What a beautiful blond

Utterly jaw dropping and epic. 2 hours of non stop adrenaline turned all the way up to 11. On crack cocaine. With nitrous oxide. And explosives. You need a bit of a lie down in darkened room when you come out!

BUT

It doesn't have the casual brutality of either Mad Max 1 or 2 (personally I don't count Thunderdome as a MM film) - or the grittiness - it is a bit more 'hollywood' - but that is more an observation than a criticism. It is more an "homage" to MM than a prequel/sequel. There is so much going on in the chase scenes that you would need to watch it a few times to spot everything.

All in all though an incredible film - must have cost a fortune to make, with little cgi. Go and see it - you wont be disappointed. 9.5/10

Pretty much my thoughts after seeing it last night too, I didn't realise i'd booked it in 3D, which annoyed me as I don't like and I don't think this film benefitted from it either. I'd give it 8/10, would have preferred a bit more brutality too!

Saw it last night, awesome.

Hardy's good in it but this could have been done with gibson still. Would have been a brilliant way back for him.

7.75/10 from me. The hype here and elsewhere built it up a bit too much, so whilst impressive it was nothing groundbreaking.
